Importing a Car from the United States, bringing it into Canada:

Article in pdf form on what is needed, timelines, basic checklists to make the process easier. Much easier if you are not buying a newer vehicle (15 years or newer) and not from a dealer of some sort stateside

Find one and we'll post it here.

Provincial differences aren't that great, but I bet you state is a little more involved. Roughly same concept, just different signs above the agencies you will be faxing/emailing/visiting.

Won't even talk about getting that car into California. Looking at all their rules, I am surprised that there is not a swastika on their Environmental letterhead.

Interesting site giving break downs of what the specifics are, especially California:

http://www.importavehicle.info/2013/04/ ... newer.html

They also have the requirements for the following countries:

Import -
To USA
To Canada
To UK
To Australia
To Japan
To Mexico

Extra section on this:

More information on bringing a vehicle into Canada via RIV process. This only applies to cars that are 15 years old and newer, so a 1989-1992 Colt is well outside of that window and therefore is exempt from the importation RIV program.
Hope this helps more people when it comes to importation.
