| Post subject: | removing an Evo III rear wing |
can anyone tell me how to remove the rear wing from an Evo III trunk?!? the bolts are pretty rusted and I don't wanna remove unnecessary stuff. I need to remove it for shipping purposes and for painting eentually |

Its pretty common for those brackets to rust out...I believe on the bracket which secures the wing to the trunk lid there are rivits which you drill out.IF your brackets are pretty bad you'll want to Fab up some.Also when reinstalling keep in mind the only way to change the bulb on the wing is by removing the wing from the trunk |

To remove rusted bolts, they need to be shocked or through the use of an electro magnetic induction tool like I use, allow for much easier removal. I generally pick out the rust at the nut's leading edge, then brush out the debris with a wire brush - stainless bristles on small hobby brushes are nice, and then heat and twist. A little spray bottle with water helps to keep adjacent parts from getting overheated as the heat spreads and you can spray your hardware, to shock it, but keep in mind the cycling of the materials. I try to get it hot (doesn't need to be red hot all the time, usually 10-15 second blasts to allow heat down the bolt, and then attempt the twist once the bolt has normalized again) then let it cool, maybe shock it if it's stubborn or just heat in waves, and then give it heck, for larger hardware. http://youtu.be/h7cvIFniws0 Not cheap, but local shops may have some in use.
