A few may remember a little while back I picked up a '97 suburban, 5.7 vortec, 2wd, etc. Very nice truck but more of a cruiser than a workhorse. So the other night I was bumming craigslist and came across an ad for a '95 suburban. It was pretty decent and the price was pretty nice.

I set up an appointment via email to meet with the guy at 8 at a local fast food place. Headed out, got an email at 7:15 saying "I'll be delayed a little bit". Got to the food place at about 8:05, guy won't answer his calls, figured he was an old fart who didn't understand technology, no biggy. We ate and at about 8:30, I see the suburban pull into the lot. We headed out, checked out the truck, but we can't find the guy. He slipped inside while I wasn't looking so I headed back in to chat with the guy. Went up to him and called him by the name on his email and he just gives me an odd look.

Turns out he just bought the truck right down the road at about 7:30. I offered to buy it off him for 100 more than he paid, he's on the fence about it but agrees to a test drive. We make it about 10 feet into the test drive and it sputters and dies, ditto on the 2nd and 3rd attempt, 4th attempt gets us about 500' before it does it again. The guy starts freaking out "Oh shit, it didn't do that when I first drove it! You can have it!". Turns out he had a 2 hour drive back home and he had a wife and kid with him, meanwhile I had 20 miles and 4 guys with me. He agreed to the extra 100 which didn't hurt too bad since he just put 80 in for gas.

'95 GMC Suburban 3/4 ton, 454 (one year shy of getting the vortec), rebuilt 4l80e, 4x4, american racing rims with 70% tires, brand new brush guard, class V hitch. Should make a good shop truck once it has some new ignition bits. Had it less than a day before I used it to pull out a stuck friend. I was having some fun demolishing some huge snow banks and he decided he wanted to show off, got stuck on his first attempt.

Interesting story but no way I would have paid him more for it. You had him right where you wanted him  .

Haven't torn into it yet, it's been too cold to do anything outside. Judging by how it runs fine when it's cold and crappy once it's warm, I'm guessing either cap/rotor are junk or the coil is going out.
