Can someone take pictures of their gas door latch setup that has the lever and cable? I bought one but am unsure how the door pops open when you pull the cable. With the stock key latch it is very hard to shut and doesn't pop open when the lever is lifted.

I don't have a pic but my summit wagon has this. There is also supposed to me a little metal bent piece that snaps on, it puts tension on the door so that when the cable unlatches it flies open. This piece is missing on my wagon too so I need to grab one from the yard. I guess they get loose over time and fall off. Not saying this is your problem but worth looking into.

I was just down there a couple weeks ago but hadn't worked on the colt yet. Is there any way someone can take a picture of this metal tab the Chris is talking about?

Mine has the same symptoms (won't pop have to close with key). The plunger mechanism is not seated on mine, will have to take panels off to fix.

Looked at the one on my colt the other day and noticed that it was different than the one on my summit wagon. I'm not really sure what actually makes the door pop open on a csm. I guess these don't have that tab I was thinking of.

Chris, what does the lock cylinder look like on the colt.

Ended up selling my complete lock set to a local guy that needed them for his colt so I can't grab any pics for you.

Here is my popper that still works.

Here is the inside where you can see that it just uses plastic teeth at each corner to hold it in.

Note that this is on a sedan and I didn't have to remove any plastic to even take the picture, I am pretty sure you do on a hstch. Though

Thanks for the pictures underpsi. Is there a chance you can take a picture of the hinge setup for the door? I looked at my talon gas door and there is a metal tab that is on the door that pushes on the hinge that causes it to spring open upon release. I have installed everything correctly but am missing what causes the door to spring open.

That black plastic double contact tab thing pictured above is what is supposed to pop open the door. There are flex tabs broken off in that picture, both of them, top and bottom.
The wire is only the retainer being pulled allowing the door to swing open, and pop when the retainers push it forward.

Come to think of it , it doesn't "pop" open it just releases. Wire out would be hard to find one that still works the right way.

Harvey, looks like its time to modify your gas door to accept that spring loaded metal piece like the dsm's use.

In looking at my talon it has the same plastic piece as the colt does. I want to believe that some form of spring mechanism is required for it to work properly. Time to do some engineering.

Ok on a hunch I double checked the gas door, those two spots on the cables latch are not used for "popping" the door open at all. They are there to keep the door even with the body when shut. The hinge itself has a semi circular metal tab acting as a spring when the door is closed.

I apologize for the huge pics, I took and uploaded these with my phone.
