On the old car I cut the driveshaft tunnel starting at the rear seat and made the cuts going forward about 2 feet. Then bent the whole thing up 4 inchs. Then used some steel to fill the gaps.

This one might have a sheet metal tunnel, but not sure yet.

I had one transfer case problem. I blew one up at the shoot out. I spoke with shep about what had happened and he said that I should not be breaking t-cases like that. So for the moment I don't think I have a transfer case isssue.

The 4-link kit is the CE standard 4link from Summit racing.
I see. That was a total error on my end :-? Well this is awesome. I intend to make the nopi norwalk event next year and also the shootout, so hopefully I see the car there :)

I bought the mustang kit before I knew that Ron was going to let me borrow his tubing bender. Plus the Fox body kit is such a tight fit that it just saves time in bending. I am sure if we got really good at bending we could do it faster, but at this point each bend is taking about a half hour.

I doubt I will be at Nopi, well I doubt my car will be there anyway as it is a arm and a leg to race, but I will be at the shootout with the car for sure.

Yeah when I first picked up the car I kinda liked the color, but I started to dislike it after a while. But then we put the wheels on it and I was like...hmmm.

The car has a bunch of hail damage on the roof and the hood. So as suggested by Coldwater and PTT I might just paint the top of the car gloss black and do the body work and leave the rest the aqua color (kinda like a 1G's paint scheme).

OK, it has been a while....sorry. I have been busy with a lot of other stuff and have not had a alot of time to put into the car, but i have put at least one night in aeach weekend since the last post. So here goes.

I used the halo from the mustang kit, but the front down bars were not the way I wanted them to be so I had to make my own.

Image

I ended up going behind the dash support, becuase I think it will look nicer when done. I am going to leave the dash support alone simply becuase trying to rebuild it with all the dash mounts is going to take more time then I have

Image

This is the rear of the cage and I started doing the floor bar. After being challenged by PTTcolt to build the rear floor bar out of 1 piece of tube I decided to go for it and it came out pretty nice.

I went o JEG's to get more tubing as I ran out and bought 3 20 foot lenghts of tube. Now picture this.......

I had a 20 foot length of tube and had to start with the tube going out the man door in my garage (not pictured) and set a garbage can in the snow in my yard with the other end in the bender to make the first bend.

Then as you can see on the pictures below the old Colt is close to the bender so I had to move the colt over to make the first bend. I bent it a little moved the Colt...bent a little more, moved the Colt....Finally I got pi##ed off and cut the C pillar out of the car so the tube could swing threw the car....LOL

I am hoping to put a lot of time into it this weekend and make some real progress. I would say that I am going to keep this updated, but why bother.

LOL

I think earlier he said he was borrowing it from Ron. And I think you should stick with the updates. Some of us only see this car once a year at the Shootout, and the other large majority of the board will never see this car in person at all. That said, the project is coming along very nicely! Also, what is the purpose of that hoop you are running to the back, maybe something to mount the fuel cell to?

I will keep up with the updates, it is just hard to find the sit-down time to upload and post stuff.

Yes the bender is Ron's.

The rear hoop is for.....well you'll see  :D

I hope to be out in the garage in a few hours to get some more done on it tonight. Hoping to make a lot of progress this weekend.

You are an animal.

I'm talking to some chics from Lodi-I'm sneaking into your garage next time I'm out. ;)

Love you. And, you know you at least have to dig race me on 224. ;)

Merry Xmas,

Ok this is what I have gotten done this weekend so far. I ran out of weld wire last night and had to cut it short.

I renforced the rear floor bar to the rear corners of the car.

I added these two side bars to triangulate the floor bar

and another shot of them

Image

I added the main hoops rear down bars.

Hear is a outside shot of the car

Inside

I added bars to the rear side of the stut towers to make sure the strut towers are completely supported by the cage for when we cut the rear frame out of the car.

So thats were I am at for the time being.

I am going to put a little more work into it when I get back from doing the Xmas thing. I am really hoping to have all the cage/susp work done before the end of the year. Still have the suspension to finish and the seat mounting area.

Looking great. You are going to be taking more metal out of the rear?

I would not do a cage for somebody else. One it is way to much work, and second I don't want to put somebody elses life in my hands.

The plan is to remove the entire rear frame section of the car. I kinda wanted to do that in the other car, but it was just so much work. The suspension in both cars attached to the cage, so the only thing the frame was doing was supporting the springs.

you weren't using the stock rear strut towers in the last car?
