 Post subject: 17" or 18" rims

I have been looking at some rims I would like to buy for my ride. I have a 89 Mirage HB turbo. I was wondering what would be the best size. Would 18" be too big? and I don't plan on lowering the car.

17's are big on our cars. 18's are huge.

My taste = 16's or 15's are the perfect middle ground for looks/handling.

my 17s look great I dont know if they make 18s with low enough profile but they seem to big anyways

No matter what you put on, be sure that there is a hole drilled between the stud holes. Otherwise you will need wheel spacers which are not a good idea. Check out Hondahunter's thread about his own wheels (with pics). Also, width comes into play with larger rims. Fairly easy if you use coilovers. :wink:

yeah make sure you have the 4x100 holes "Countersunk" 1/4" if you have rims with bolt patterns for 4x114.3 & 4x100. also....if you live on shitty roads like me...15" rims is the biggest youd want to go and get some good 195/50R15....i hightly reccomend the Kumho Escta 711's.....i really went 90mph in the pouring rain on the SB 15 freeway.....these are the best summer performance rain tires for the buck!!

i do think you can get 18's but why?? the rims and tires are gonna cost more than the car is worth. I too, like 15's to 16's, commons sizes, easier to get, and cheaper. not to meantion that if you get a flat, and your car is sitting all on the ground..you will have to work to get a jack under it and then the doughnut tire....well, i think you are getting my point, if not i can talk more about it.

i have 17's on my 91 hatch and its lowered w/ intrax springs over agx's and it looks good. but my winter wheels are 15's and i think they look a little better and tuck nicer under the fenders. but if you get 17's you need a 205/40 tire because anything else bigger will rub.

also if we are talking about the same thing you dont actually need the countersunk holes in the wheels. you can take the bolts that hold on the rotors and put them in from the back side and they will be flush with the surface so no spacers are needed.

:evil: Yeah, I rode with wheel spacers and intermitent tire rub for a couple of years, and then finally got coilovers to replace the lowering Intrax springs, and went to great stress about getting wheels with "holes" in them. Well, no regrets on the decissions. When I put on the old wheels this winter, I'll know what to do. :) :wink: Shouldn't this go in archives somewhere?

not to doubt you, codeman...but has anyone else verified that you can reverse that bolt and [over time] not have any issues?
how long have you had yours reversed, codeman?
