Kumho Ecsta 712 P205/55/15
Falken Azenis RT-215 P205/50/15

Both run about 31 lbs/in

The tires are mounted on identical rims 2003 Lancer OZ Racing Rims
I drove them the same course back to back on the same car.

The Falkens are brand new the Kumhos have been used for a season about 65% tread left.

Impressions:

Kumho 712s are great bang for buck they grip quite well but if you push them too far they'll let go. Their much better than most other "cheap" tires

Falken Azenis RT-215 are really wow. They make me giggle like a school girl. They have a much stiffer side wall than the kumhos and grip is amazing I even had a gravel portion of course and they even hooked up nicely on gravel. You feel much more suspension movement you can feel everything these tires are really fantastic. Suspension feels stiffer. These tires are worth every penny...

I have heard that the kumho 711's are lighter and have more grip than the 712s - the extra money is just for the fancy euro tread pattern

i never ran the 712s - but i have run 225/45/17 711s and liked them

my buddy has run through 3 sets of the 712s in his beemer and several times he has had a problem with the tires seperating and/or bulges in teh sidewall - not sure why he has had this issue

Yeah, I had a set of MXs on my Spec V. They lasted about a year, which included 4 autocrosses, about 20 drag runs, a trip to Deals Gap, and about 20,000mi. They gripped REALLY well for the first 5,000-10,000mi, but then they were just wasted.

If you were going to use then ONLY for racing, or ONLY for street, they're a damn good tire. Just don't try to do it all on one set of tires (I guess this goes for ANY tire).

On a side note, they were UNBELIEVABLE in the rain.

I had 215/45-17 on 17x7 rims. My only complaint is that their sidewalls weren't as stiff as I'd have liked. Both my stock Continental Contisports, and the insanely cheap Wanlis I'm rolling on now have stiffer sidewalls. I used to have to run the MXs at 45psi, cause anything less looked like the sidewall was collapsing.

Speakin of Wanlis....a lot of people hate on em, but I'll tell you this: $300 shipped for 225/45-17, the same tread pattern as the Yoko AVS Sport, with longer treadware, and awesome wet weather handling. These tires are so cheap, you can afford to have a second set of rims/tires for racing.

I ran the Azenis (195/60R14) on my 91 Si last season for autocross. Amazing tires!!! For only $225 shipped
They have outstanding grip and a real smooth breakaway.
When i did use them on the street, maybe 1500 miles, they felt just as good. They sucked up bumps in the road very well and had good traction in the rain. I'm not sure how long they would last if you ran them all the time. 10k miles maybe.

My girlfriend runs a 90 Miata that started with a set of 712's (205/40R16)
and the car felt good for the first half of the coarse than would chase the rear of the car for the rest of the pass. After the first 5 events we switched to the street tires for the Si. A set of Toyo proxis fz4's (205/40R16) witch made the car much more stable once heat was built in the tires, with a higher limit of traction.
On the street the 712's felt like it had the stiffer side wall and made more road noise than the fz4's. In the rain they both had good grip at all speeds.

A friend of mine has Kumho MX's on his Mustang(245/45R17) he loves them rain or shine. He is gonna get a set for his GSX when the time comes.

I'll second(or third, or fourth?) the opinion on the Azenis. I've had them for two years on the turbo, and everyone is amazed at the ride and handling; if only they knew it is the budget suspension mod. 8)

I just put the Falken 615's on my car last week. Definitly a good bang for the buck. I finally have some grip even though I am not making much power.

205/50/15 on ggsx wheels.
