Don't know much about car audio systems other than how to remove them and throw them in the garbage, but I'd like one in my old Suburban tow vehicle since I gotta drive it long distances quite often. Right now it only has an AM/FM radio with ONE functioning speaker that is blown out (and it only works at night or when it's raining :-? ) Anyhoo, so I'd like to get a whole new system.....CD Head unit that WON'T skip (it's a suburban, leaf springs, rides very rough), maybe 6x9's?, maybe 6.5" speakers?...or whatever other size these things come in. It doesn't make any difference how many speakers the car came with or what size came in the factory location since I don't plan on even mounting the new ones in the same location. I'm not real picky on any of this stuff, I just want it to be cheap, last a while and sound pretty clean/decent (Pretty much all my CD's are non-MP3 because I never had one to play the MP3's in the past and they are 128 kb/s).

To give you an idea on price...I found these all from the same place on ebay, I just picked these because they were package deal type things where I can get everything all at once and be done with it. I assume they're poor quality, but just to give you an idea, I'm throwing these out there:
These ones have a DVD player/screen and sub too, which I don't need but might be nice to have:

These ones seems ok...but I don't really need amp/subs (But I'd put em in if I had em)

Ok...

Here is the place for top end stuff, ALONG with low end quality, that's cheap the same time. http://www.etronics.com, and go to car electronics on the small sidebar to the left. Just surf around, they have TONS of stuff, for everybody. Good luck. 8)

Hey i hooked up two oldskewl Majestic 6x9s(125w) in a box and put them in my talon probably 2 years ago. I pushed them with a kenwood600w amp(obviously not hard) and they sounded really good?!?!? Actually should my garage!
Does anyone know if the newer ones are any good? Ebay has a decent deal on them
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW

Thinking about picking some up. If the new ones are anything like how i remember the old ones then this would be a pretty good deal.

Any comments?

hey homer, where in va are you? if it's not too far away, i can show you what i've done with my car. i was trying to get sponsored by jensen before they got bought out, so most of the stuff in there is jensen. they were/are an alright brand, not the best, but not the worst. and they are cheap, so what can i say? i've got a kenwood head unit, sirius satelite radio, jensen 10"sub, 2 9"x6" three ways in the back, 2 4" mids in front stock location, and 2 tweeters in the air vents. i also have 2 6" two ways that i will prolly install in the doors eventually (when i get over the fact that i will have to cut up my doors :D)

Just to let ya know, if you get junk speakers, they will sound like total a$$. Some of your top brands are: pioneer, infinity(what i am running now), kenwood, jbl, JL audio, kicker, eclipse(they make awesome speakers), MB quart, alpine, audiobahn, rockford fosgate and MTX. All these are off the top of my head. You can basically select anyone of these brands and buy any model and if you run the right amplifier and tune them correctly, they should sound good. Your best bet is to buy a round speaker, 6.5". Elliptical speakers tend to distort easier than circular speakers at high SPL levels because they do not retain their linearity as well. Talk to me on AIM: jayboh8slu, and I can assist you further. Also, your surround speakers are not meant for a lot of bass, only midbass, subwoofers are meant for bass. Just wanted to make that clear.
