I decided I needed some better throttle response on the 4g15 until I can get through my next emission check then comes the 4g63t. So I decided to start by upgrading the throttle body I used a TB from a 93 Eagle Talon DL 1.8L. My stock colt unit unit had a stock bore of 46mm the replacement talon TB had a bore of 50mm (Looked bigger but I did not measure it). All the sensors where interchangeable with the 4g15. I got the TB cleaned it up and installed it. AND IT RAN LIKE TOTAL CRAP! It idled high. If I put the pedal to the mat I would get up to about 50km/h at thats it. The tranny wasn't shifting right (Auto). So after contemplating everything with Drcolt we decided it sounded like a throttle cable with improper tension. I went back down and looked at it and relized what the problem was there was another cable that wasn't hooked up. (I assume this gets interfaced with the TCU or tranny somehow) Unfortunatley the new TB didn't have this arm attached to it DOH! so I did surgery on the 2 TBs and swapped the arm on the new TB hooked up the mystery cable and went for a drive its a whole different car it has a much smaller dead spot in the RPM range. All in all a very good upgrade for all you 4g15 guys I highly recommend doing this. I haven't even port matched the Intake manifold yet and its even better.

**UPDATE**

Now that I've been running around with the mod the more fun this car is it almost feels like VTEC once I hit about 2600 to about 5500 the car pulls surprisingly hard for a little 1.5L especially auto. I'm thinking an adjustable cam gear from RPW is in order to shift some power down from the top end to the bottom end. But to all the 1.5L guys get this mod. It takes and hour and next to no skill to put on like really if you can turn a rachet you can put this on and probably only cost about $50 for the TB from a local wrecker. Easily the best money I've ever spent on this car. I get to see later this week how the GCs feel on the car I'll keep you posted.

Happy New Year Everyone..

Tim

No idea on the motor and yeah you can get a TB for next to nothing and if you wree to buy a "ported" one from RPW their like $180 so this is a big savings.. this and a cam and a lightened flywheel would make this car much more fun to drive...

i believe that the cyclone was jap spec. Ive only seen one. I think the runners are designed a little differently.

Ive heard also that power gains are negligable. Cool cyclone emblem on intake is good for 300HP on couch models

k...coz i was like WTF...then it clicked that the 12v and 8v TB have diff bolt patterns......also could i get away with swapping 12v upper intake manifold and bolting it onto the 8v head? so i cant do the 1.8 tb.....or do i need to do the whole conversion?
