 Post subject: EGR VALVE QUESTION

my 89 colt 200gt

sohc.. dont know if its 1.5L or 1.6L
but yeah the dealer wants 225 for a new egr which i need for emission test
but i dont wonna spend that kinda $$ on the best winter beater i've ever had

anyways i wonna know if the egr from a talon would fit... they look pritty much the same but i wonna make sure

What's wrong with your current valve? I've taken mine off several times and cleaned the carbon out of them (totally plugged) and reused them. Not a problem as long as the diaphram is still intact.

EGR valve usually only has 2 bolts that hold it onto the intake manifold and a vaccuum line or two. Its a relatively easy maintenance chore. Spray carb. cleaner and a small probe (dental probes work nicely) can be used pick out the deposits that have stopped the valve from opening. Use a short piece of vaccuum hose to apply suction to make sure the valve operates after cleaning.

Go to a salvage yard and get one. You can probally get it for like $10.
You can push the diaphram up inside the egr to see if its stuck. You can also apply vacuum and see if it moves.
