th easiest way to put discs in the rear is to swap out the whole rear axle and bolt it up save ALOT of time

honda,

I disagree with that I had swap the stub axles over because my trailing arm bolts were ceased the job really only took an hour or so it was quite good...

Yeah Hyundai Elantra GLS has the same rear set up. To the best of my knowledge they were only offered 94-95.

I'm still wanting to ditch these fawkin' captive rotors up front but not get mad bumpsteer. Has anyone figured this out? I recall one person claiming to have used 2001+ Elantra knuckle/hubs on their Colt with good results but I never saw pics or any details...

From what ive seen, the Elantra suspension is identical to the Colts. The spindles are identical. The struts and springs are a bit stiffer with a bigger sway bar. Appears they most likely have the same set up as the Colt GT's.
 Yeah, GLS. What was i thinking?

Even the latest gen Elantras? They didn't switch to a noncaptive hub until very recently.

That's pretty awesome if so. I know for a fact that the earlier Elantra knuckle bolts on without issue to the Excel(but it's still captive), and therefore I'd think the non-GT Colt/Mirage as well. If the design of the newest one still follows that of the older one, then I think we all have a solution!

I believe the disc is larger, and maybe the caliper too.

OK, just so you know, I DID do a search, and still couldn't find an answer to my question:

Will the rear disc brakes from a FWD Galant work on the rear of a CSM? Does the whole assembly bolt up the same way, or would you have to just swap the hubs and fabricate a bracket?

The reason I ask is, there's a set in a local junkyard that I can pick up on the cheap, but it will be gone soon.

Thanks,

Ren

No they dont work as the Galants have the same rear stub able as a DSM.... Find a Elantra or Colt w/ Rear discs...

I have a question:
On the rear brakes, do the drum and disc fit on the same stub axle? Or must you swap the whole axle beam? I havent physically transfered the parts over to see but the Pinnacle system at work shows different axle beams for the gt and normal colt. Elantra shows no difference in axle beams whether drum, disc, or abs.

So, if you remove the stub axle assembly from the axle beam, will it bolt onto the CSM axle beam?

turboren: You can't unbolt a stub axle thats apart of the entire axle Galant parts will not fit the colt with out SEVERE modificates like cutting and rewelding the axle (not for the faint at heart)
