Hi everyone.

I'll be attempting the 4g63 swap soon and just wanted a simple question answered that I couldnt find by myself. I just want to know what the difference is when swapping the 91-92 4g63 into a 89 gt is rather then a 90 4g63.

I dont know for sure, but is the wiring harness different? Will it be difficult? Will I have a usable tach?!

I just cant sit here anymore searching. It's 4:30 in the morning, my eyes are watery, my mouth is dry, and i'm dying to know so I can see if I can use this motor.

Thanks for taking the time. Look at those eyes :o I need sleep

When you say 89 GT do you mean 1.5 or 1.6 turbo? I'll assume 1.5

Yes the motor will fit you'll have to mod the eclipse harness a bit. and Out of the box the tach will not work but there are mods you can do to make
it work again... You'll need to find mirage turbo motor mounts or use 92-95 elantra 1.6 or 1.8 motor mounts

If its 1.6 turbo

Yes it will fit I would carry all the electronics from the 1.6 motor to the 2.0 and bolt them on and everything will work....

I meant Dodge colt GT 1.6l Turbo. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought all GT's were turbo..

I havent done the swap yet but Im very familiar with the 4g63. The difference between the years is:
-Wiring harnesses, 90 has its own unique harness
-Crank 90-91 6 bolt, 92-94 7 bolt
-The 7 bolt has a plague called crankwalk, where the crank develops endplay
Ill be doing the 4g63 swap too as soon as I Sell one of my vehicles.
beserko was right in saying you could use all the colts electronics on a 91 up motor . Try to get a 6 bolt engine.
Go to DSMTALK, or DSMTUNERS For tons of 4g63 info

Just got done with the 91 4g63t swap myself, all the sensors can be swapped over. The only problem I had was my engine died when my car overheated and took the ecu with it. So my car would not start till I swapped ecu's, but would not idle till I swapped out the mas. So good luck with your swap.

Yea we got the swap done aswell not too long ago. But we ran issues with trying to use a 90 dsm tranny with the 2.0. The cables were too long for one. The shifter assembly is different. The colt cables wont hook up to the tranny levers correctly unless you swap em out (hard as hell).

Found it to be easier to just use the damn 1.6 tranny.

congrats on the swap. I was thinking about using the 2.0 tranny but i guess ill just stick with the 1.6 tranny. One question though. is it necessary to use the dsm MAF? Thanks

I made a little faq for swapping. Should be somewhat useful.

It's not necessary, but in stock form it outflows the 61t maf.

I never new how blind I was to the Mirage world when I was in the DSM worl now that I'm i both all the information I gained in the DSM world has made this swap in the mirage a peace of cake. Use the search button on www.dsmtalk.com or www.dsmtuners.com and you can find all the differnces that there are within 10 minutes and you will find out shitloads of other usefull information in there.

From what I've heard, the '93-'94 7-bolt motors don't crankwalk any more than the 6-bolt ones do (however, they DO have weaker rods and won't make as much power before something goes boom.) The crankwalk-prone motors are only found on 2G cars.
