My friend is selling his 1991 Hyundai Excel for $500 an I want to buy it and preform a 4G63-T swap on it. I searched the net too many times and I found no info on it. So is the swap the same for the Excel as it is for the Mirage? Or is it different?

I saw a pic of the engine bay, looks like a 4G15 to me. Buy it and go to work, you'll get it figured out.

There was just such a project in either this month or last month's SCC. Or maybe it was Super Street. I don't remember for sure, but they had on the cover a white C5 squaring off against a white GSX, midnight club style, on the cover. They didn't go too in depth about the conversion, but they did have a couple of pics.

I had an Excel while I was stationed in Iceland. That damn car could take a beating, let me tell you. It was my practice rally car. I got pretty good at getting the rear to come around on those dirt roads there, especially when I installed the full-size Bronco front springs on the rear... Ever seen a FWD that would power-on oversteer on dry pavement?

The 91 excel and CSM's all use Mitsubishi engines and such. Hyundai used the 8 valve 4g15 in the excel. Go for it!

the colt turbo mounts should work, as well as the harness from gt turbo or a dsm turbo.

yeah, i believe if you look at either the september or october issue of Sport Compact Car magazine with a white GSX next to a Yellow Corvette on the front cover, you will find a Hyundai Excel with a 4G63T transplant as one of the main articles.
Transplant was performed by Road Race Engineering here in Santa Fe, California. Give em a call if you're really serious about this swap... i don't know the number personally, but i know one of our members in this forum does... or go to their website.

I remember them saying that the engine bay was very similar to that of the 89 Mirage/Colt turbos.

I talked to my friend and I can get his Hyundai Excel for $300. And I found a JDM Mirage Turbo front clip for $900. So I was wondering is swaping the 4G61-T be the same as putting a 4G63-T in the Excel?
