What is the use of an intercooler. I need the info to show my father. He thinks that the only people that use an intercooler are thoes that have an automatic. If anyone can lead me to a website or if someone has a layout of what an intercooler does that would be great help. Thanks.

Jeez, is everyones parents here retards or what? Will this fit? Does this work? Good grief. Just explaining the basic concept of an intercooler should convince the doaf. An intercooler is needed to bring down the temperature of the air. After passing through the turbo and being compressed, it gets super heated and can be as hot as 220 degF. Not good for the motor. The intercooler works the same way the radiator does. The air passes through it and cools it down to a more acceptable temperature. This should be in the 130 degF range or so. As we all know, or should know, cooler air is denser, and therefore more combustable due to the greater presense of oxygen. Plain and simple.

Coupled with dsmracer's explanation....show him this picture. It's basic, but should explain what the purpose of an intercooler is.

This post should be moved to the newbie forum. Good illustration of a turbo's intake side.

Thanks for the fast reply miserymane. Eactly what is a dsm smic?

I just received a new JC Whitney catalog today. What page?

Does it matter is the tube going across the valve cover is metal (stock) or plastic? Also the tube going over the valve cover is pretty small in diameter and not of uniform diameter

There are oil coolers like on the evo but it has nothing to do with the tranny though (he might not feel as retarded if he feels he misunderstood someone).
