hi ppl,does anyone have any ideas on how to stiffen up the rear suspension without going low,the car is used for work and the road is terrible.
any online sites would be helpful as i live in malta.

Stiffer springs are generally only available for our cars, that will also lower your ride height. You need suspension travel and actually need more than our cars are designed to give.

Unless you find an airbag setup that will fit on your stock rear shocks, to maintain height when loaded, you are not going to find a "towing" spring for our cars, directly under the application of Colt/Summit/Mirage.

You can contact companies like BG, H&R, Eibach, Swift, King, and Whiteline and see if they have any springs that will match your overall diameter, top and lower spring fitment clocking/round-shaved coils, to fit your rear shocks. Then you will have the bigger issue of shocks that will blow out in short order due to the springs being too stiffly sprung, and the shocks being unable to control the stronger oscillations. You'll be chasing your tail at this point.

If you are overloading your car, or the roads have crazy potholes/surface variation, this is not the car to be driving and looking for truck like ability or newer car ride. Your only bet is coilover/external reservoir rally shocks. They are worth more than your car, twice over.

Bit of a dilemma as you can see. :lol:

we changed the front springs to original gti springs which seems to have solved the problem,(the car is a 91 lancer glx fitted with galant vr4 running gear)but rear is too soft with the standard springs

Fitting some drop springs is the only cheap alternative to getting a more controlled ride in the rear, but will drop you 1-1.6" at static ride height with no extra weight in the car.

I run BG springs Colt specific 1.6" drop FR/RR (proper stiffness and not bouncy), and have used 1G Talon FWD H&R drop springs FR/RR (quite stiff and bouncy due to spring rates not matching the balance/weight of a CSM).

Both are a similar drop, likely FWD Galant rear springs might also work for you. Not 100% on that though.

Have to find a site with specs posted about the spring sizings and rates ... like Eibach or similar companies. Yes a Galant should have a stiffer spring, due to its weight being higher. Colts are very soft in the rear, but oddly enough, the hatch is heaviest version of the car and doesn't get any stiffer a spring than the sedan, they should have the same rear springs/rates.

you stated in the first post the roads are terrible.. if there are alot of potholes and bumps.. going to a stiffer spring will make the ride harder.

Yes, galant springs work great. I have them on. They will give your car a serious rake, but consider squatting a thing of the past.
