Hey just a quick question,
Might seem a bit silly but i just recently bought a lancer with the 4g61t in it, and am unfamilia with some of the things.
I have just noticed whilst doing some work that the battery does not have a ground connected to the chasis, is this normal?
Ive never owned a car that was not grounded to the chasis i think.

Iam taking the assumption that i need to connect one, or is it normal with the 4g61t not to be grounded?

Thanks
Jt

On our US versions it is grounded to the chassis then jumpered to the starter all one cable. Yours may be connected directly to the starter which would be ok too.

There is also a tranny to chassis ground and intake manifold to firewall/chassis ground. You want to make sure those are there and in good condition.

It will not hurt anything if you want to add a - battery terminal to chassis ground for extra assurance.

The ground to chassis is very important because everything grounded to the chassis has to have a return path the battery, which would otherwise be the firewall ground wiring.

MUST have the ground. 8)

Thanks guys, awesome info.
... thats what i thought, never seen an ungrounded battery in a car before, must be the dodgy work of a backyard mechanic :-) , i think i better go through the engine and make sure i dont find anything else out of place,
I just rang a mitsubishi dealer to ask what oil this engine uses, they advised me to go with magnatec 10-30 but that seems a bit strange to me, especially as he didnt look it up he just sorta commented thats what we use in all lancers, so i dont know if he even knew what a 4g61t is...

Anyone know the answer to this one? I know its of the topic but didnt want to start a new thread for this....
I was going to go with fully synthetic oil (unsure of what grade i need if you can let me know)

Also im replacing the spark plug leads, cant really find any specific on ebay , was wondering ive heard the leads from a colt are the same is that true? Or where can i get Decent leads ?am after performance ones.

Thanks again

I use 10w30 full synthetic.

90-94 DSM (Talon, Ecipse, Laser) should work for you.

Nice job on the leg work Nocturnal!

All great products, the mainstays in this genre of engine/car and I run those myself (not the magnecores only because I run stock NGK wires).

92-95ish Lantras, 87-91 era 4g61/67 equipped CB Lancers/Colts/Cyborgs/Mirages, and these Mitsu DOHC motors from roughly 87-91 4g61/63/64/67 will fit your 4g61/t motor.
