I typed that phrase into the search engine on this site and got 4,397 results. I'll post up my dilema: I was dead set on a 2100 ACT kit and then a friend got back from Wyotech in Sacramento where he supposedly became a genius on all things DSM after one and a half years of ownership of a 95 TSi, he starts telling me all these negative things about ACT's and how an ACT 2600 exploded on him after 10,000 miles, and how they're noisy and chattery etc. I'd like to hear some other opinions, what's your guys experience with clutches? |

Grab a street disc and a lightweight flywheel and you'll be happy. For every story of an act blowing up, there's a hundred more people who haven't had a problem, squeaky wheel gets the grease and etc. |

I had a guy from Wyotech tell my friend that his volvo was missing because of a bad fan belt. I took one look at it and could hear/see an arch from one of the plug wires to the block. Not to knock on your bud but I don't hold very high standards for Wyotech grads. |

Clutches are like rod and main bearings in a way. What I mean is there are a lot of things that can be over looked when they are installed. At the end of the day the back yard mechanic that had no idea what they were doing could have installed the parts wrong and then when they fail in a very short amount of time its automatically the part's fault because it was junk. Am I saying that ACT never lets a bad part slip through? No, they are not perfect. I am saying that some of the horror stories that you hear come from people that were not capable of doing the work and not willing to take the blame for the problem. |

I've never ran an ACT by choice, mainly because I can get a clutch of better quality (IMO) for less. I did a lot of searching on tuners when looking for clutch options. Apparently ACT has redesigned their clutches so that they don't fail like they were but I've still heard of fingers breaking, springs popping, ect. I've even got a friend that had a finger break on his 2600. I'd look at Southbend Clutch and ClutchNet. I've ran both and both were great. I'm running a XTD stage 2 PP with a ClutchNet 4 puck unsprung right now. It's a pretty grabby setup but I wanted something that could hold 400hp and not be a heavy pedal. It looked great when I switched clutch discs at 5k (to put the 4 puck in, other disc was in great condition). I have about 7k on it now, no problems. |

I've daily driven my ACT 2100 for the past 2.5 years and it still feels just as good now as it did the first day I installed it. I wouldn't recommend anything else to anyone else unless you're trying to make shitloads of torque. |

The ACT 2100 pressure plate and street disc (full face) is a great clutch. I had an Exedy stock replacement for around 12k miles and when it came out it still looked great. I'm currently running ACT 2600 pressure plate w/ the ACT 6 puck sprung hub disc. I am less than pleased. I've replaced EVERY component related to the clutch on this car and it still engages low and has drag at about 6700 rpm. I've even given the guys at Jacks Transmission the opportunity to adjust every thing and they are to the point where they want to build an extension for the clutch M/C push rod to remove the last 1/16" of pedal free travel. That's just my experience. |

On the internet I almost never hear anything bad about 2100's, only bad things about 2600's. I'm glad my projected goal is 300hp FWD. |

Yeah, where I live anything over 300hp is a waste, so I don't need too much of a clutch. Probably just going to go the 2100 route and do it properly. Thanks for all the info and personal experience put forth guys. |
