I couldn't find this topic in search, so I'd like to document here for future reference.

My new 91 Colt had no keys; they were lost by the previous owners. The ignition is so worn that anything will turn in it, so I can still drive the car.

The fix for a missing CSM key is this:

Remove the key cylinder from the PASSENGER SIDE door. Once the door panel is removed this is pretty easy. The key cylinder will have a code stamped on it in this format:

E5XXXX

A locksmith can cut a new key based on the code. CSMs have the ignition, door, trunk, fuel door keyed alike, so one key fixes all.

Just FYI, folks.

Hahaha....I had to tear the passenger door locks from both my csm's to have keys made. Absolutely no problems with cut keys working as ignition keys. Maybe I should have contributed this a long time ago.

I've never heard of Mitsubishi Dealer and free in the same sentence :P . Consider yourself lucky.

all you have to have is the title of you're car in you're name. Trust me I did it with my vr4 when I lost my keys. All you have to do is call the dealer and ask

They probably wanted you to come back and buy lots of "dealer only" GVR4 parts with their special markups.

This thread is key! There it had to be said. :butthead:
