Has anyone see any good websites for the above cars? I've done a bit of searching and read a posting on diffrent boards here and there, but have not seen any indepth sites or forums for the same. Often the pics links that I do find for the forums are dead.

Of course my greater interest in in the 4G63/4 Turbo swaps done and what is compatible as far as drivetrains go. I see a mention here and there, but nothing too solid.

Any suggestions?

There really isn't much out there on these things to be honest. I've owned 3 of them, 2 of which were the AWD models. They are great little cars for sure.

The 92's have the 1g style awd trannies and the 93-96 have the 2g style dsm trannies, The 92's have an actual Mitsu 6 bolt 4G64 under the hood where the later models got the 7 bolt.

I never swapped any of mine although the thought crossed my mind more than once. I know you'd have to convert the wiring harness for DOHC use or just hardwire in a dsm engine harness. You may have to change the t-belt timing mount but I'm not sure. The other 3 will swap right over to the 4G63 block and bolt right in. Of course if you get a 93-96 model the mounts will be on the tranny anyway.

The rear ends are completely different from the dsm's. They use a separate shock/spring setup. Its not a strut/spring assembly like on the dsm's. Rear disc brakes are pretty rare on these things too. None of mine were equipped but I know it was an option.

Also search for RVR, they are the turbo awd factory ones that of course we didn't get. Hope this helps!

Thank you for responding.

Hmm... That is quite interesting about the differences between the 92s and the 93-96'es.

I had seen a couple of things about the RVRs, and some of them look pretty sharp to me. I wonder if any of those are showing up in Canada now. Those brush guards look to be a bit much, although I do like the air scoop for the top mount intercoolers. I've run across some kind of two door targa top version as well-pretty funky.

Its funny-there are a couple of wiki type articles that I keep coming up upon abouit thes RVR turbos being basically the same drivetrain as the EVOs. I'm going to have to finally see one of those AWD versions in person-all the Summit Wagons, Expos, and Colt Vistas I've ever seen at the u-pull its are FWD.

Some of the people I've seen on other forums and postings here and there are claiming the platform won't hold up to higher HP applications-I wonder how different a 2.4 AWD US-spec wagon is from a turbo RVR.

The US AWD models almost identical to DSMs. But they do have a radically different rear end (see my Car Domain site) and a shorter, two section drive shaft.

In the process of doing the 4G64 Turbo as we speak on a 96 eagle summit wagon/van 5 spd awd (i'm sure you've seen it on the web if you been searching). The factory engine is rebuilt (factory 7 bolt) and in the vehicle with Manley 8.5 comp pistons and Manley forged rods w/ balance shafts removed. My engine has the girdle main cap system and thrust bearing (don't know if all years have this or not). After I get some miles on the engine Ive got the stuff to turbo the wagon/van minus intercooler piping and getting the custom dp/exhaust. I'm using the SOHC 16v head for now, its suppose to flow up to 17-18 psi. I'm using a Suprat TT sidemount intercooler, with a Mitsu TDO6-20g, punishment racing recirculated external gate and a Tial 38mm wastegate.
Tuning wise I'm using a SAFC neo, already wired in the car, Wideband O2, and I have a J&S ultra safeguard for knock and adjustable timing retard. You can either use DSM injectors with the driver or use RX7 high impedance injectors. Something I have found my injectors have the round type plug and not the square (seen others with square). I also found out that some summit/expo had a eprom ecu for the 2.4 awd model. The ecu number is different then mine for the same model year pretty sure the ecu is for automatic but I can probably make the ecu work then find someone to reflash for bigger injectors and get rid of the safc (future mod after I get ready for bigger than 650cc injectors and/ or DOHC head swap)?
While a 2G trans will bolt right in, the final drive is different (thx Jack Transmission for that info). Jack's transmission said he could still rebuild the factory trans the same as a 2g stock or performance rebuild. I'm using a South Bend full kevlar face clutch along with a act 2100 pp. There's ton more info I could go on and on, but I've already wrote a book if you want to know something else shoot me a pm. Building a 4G64 is 90% same as a 4G63. If you want to see some of my build up go to my car domain page.

Does anyone know if the 93-96 Expo/Vista Awd Manual transmission will work in a 95' GSX?

It should, as long as the xfer case and rear are all matching in ratio's. But, Since it would be a 31 vs 33, it most likely would not be as strong.

From what I know 4g64 Expo/Vistas comes with w5m33 isn't? It's just that I'm not sure 100% if they will fit on AWD DSMs, also since these are 2g style transmissions and they were available for 93-96 Expos/Vistas I'm assuming that they are like 95-96 2g transmissions and not like the 97-99 right?? So the 95 transfer case from the DSM should fit in one of these transmissions?

Yes they will fit and the dsm x-fer case bolts on. I do think there is a slight difference, the VC on the end of the trans is thinner than the dsm one for some reason.

I believe they are the w5m31/2 (same tranny they would put in an AWD galant (NS) overseas (since we only got a Galant GSX for a year). Same as the autos come with the w4a31/2 tranny. They are stronger than the NA FWD trannies, just not the best for boost. I am sure you could have it revuilt to handle the power though.

Remember, the RVR High Sports Gears had different transmissions than the non-turbo models. They used the 33 series of Auto (riceless90 has one) and Manual.

Maybe they had the trannys replaced with 33's when the originals dropped out? I know they are known for weak transmissions from the factory. I would love to find a 2g w4a33laying around out here. It would save me from having to order an RVR tranny.

Look on the firewall at the transmission code and it will tell you what came in it.
