Coming home from work today, sittin in front of me at the light ready to get on the highway is a 80's Cutless. Dual exhaust, deep dish rims hangin out the sides and about a billion watts of sound. This onramp is short and during rush hour you gotta go for it and fight your way onto the highway. This guy whips over to the left lane i'm in the middle and clear. Bottom of third gear i'm coming on him pretty quick. I see his exhaust black smoke and he don't want me passing him! Nothing he can do about it.I let off a little so were neck and neck. Top of third, shift, bye-bye! He gets off at my exit, were next to each other playin back and forth. everytime he guns it so do I. I pull him every single time. I so love it when people underestimate my little blue econobox! I wish he could have seen that little 89cu.in. engine that pulled him.

Thats the same reason I want to stick with the 1.6L. Everyone expects a fast Mirage to have the 63 in it but I'd like telling the V8's that its just a 1.6L. It just eats at them that they got beat by a little 4cyl.

not neccessarily, you can always say that the car is "stock" , as long as you didn't mention what car the other engine came out of.

4g63t powered colt has a "stock" engine, from a dsm
2g exhaust manifold, "stock" for a 2nd gen dsm
1g smic, stock from a 1g dsm
evo3 big 16g, "stock" from an Evo 3
afc, not stock,
turbo timer not stock
550cc injectors,(can be "stock" from a turbo II rx-7)
its all up to your discretion how much info you are willing to tell about your car....
the mods above are from my brother's colt, and as far as i'm concerned, it is all stock....

good kill.

Call me crazy, but I have always wanted a car that would turn 9000+ RPM's. Just to get that pure race car feeling and high pitched screem. I feel the 61 is a much better candidate for this than the 63. If I threw lighter rods and pistons it it I know it could handle much better than the longer stroked 63. Its the valve train I worry about more so though.

i think in the loong run, turbo is more expensive and i found with some of my DSM buddies there talons always have problems. Not big ones but annoying little things.
at the same time, i love tinkering and fixing those annoying things.
i had a 81' trans am with a 350 in her... it ripped, the 380hp was there at all times, non of this turbo lag crap.
It comes down to preference and i respect your choice for going all motor.

i think Tim's colt will be a beast, hopefully he meets that 200WHP goal he has set for himself.

their valvesprings, valves and retainers are suposed to be good to 9k to 9.2k rpm...all the time

and turbo cars and engines are MUCH cheaper to build more powerfully than a non-turbo car, total cash outlay for a 12second 4g63t powered colt, aboue $4,500, including purchase price of colt and donor car.
totla price of a 12 sec no turbo 4g64 powered colt....who know's, my wallet isn't that thick.

Good info Crackerman. And I have to agree here, smaller displacement motors are much cheaper to make fast these days if they have a turbo. All cars have there fair share of problems, exspecially when you are adding power and driving the snot out of them. I personally like the sound of a NA engine that has been built. My friend has an all motor Civic that sounds pissed off, and just wails when the Vtec kicks in. I'm not saying I like honda  but if built right they sound cool and are decently quick...though he can't beat me and I have $15,000 less invested into mine...he's now searching for a turbo kit.
