I decided to go for a nice cruise in my car tonight just to relieve some stress. Not looking for a race, just burning some gas and enjoying the cool night air. After about a 20 mile loop on the highways around Denver, I was within a few exits from my apartment. I generally drive pretty slow when just putting around in my car and two crotch rockets rolled up next to me. I decided to give them some wastegate to see if they were intersted in a little fun. There was no traffic and 5 lanes wide with no turns in sight...they confirmed the decision with a nod and down shifted. They patiently waited for me to work my car into third (damn tranny) at 65 mph. There was a "stand off" at the start since it seemed we both wanted the other to go first. The rider on the R1 motioned for me to go so I hit it.
They both quickly reacted as I almost instantly built full boost and spun the tires. The R1 passed me almost immediatly with the R6 in tow...but then I caught traction. The R6 was at my front bumper at the 3-4 shift and I quickly passed him gaining quickly on the R1. At the top of 4th the R1 and I were side by side with me having momentum. I hit fifth quickly and pulled a good 2 car lengths before shutting it down.

He stayed right next to me as we slowed down and waited for the R6 who had lost by about 6-7 lengths. He signaled for another round and this time I didn't get the jump, the R6 hit it almost immediatly after catching up so we were immediatly chasing. The race started closer to 70 mph so I hardly broke the tires loose and was immediatly bouncing off the limiter. At the top of 4th I had just passed the R6 with the R1 about a car lenght ahead. I hit fifth and began to pull up next to and pass the R1. No more than half a car length past him I hit the limiter... :o . Shot a huge flame out the side exit exhaust...right where he was.

After the scare we slowed down and I gave them a thumbs up. We were just approaching my exit so I signaled and they followed me. I pulled over at the King Soopers and we chatted for a while. The R1 was bone stock, the R6 had minor bolt ons. The guy on the R1 said all he could hear was my car next to him and he nearly shat himself when I hit the limiter and blew a three foot flame at him. We shook hands and went on our way.

*NOTE FOR THE HATERS* This is all taking place at Denver elevations where an N/A vehicle will lose 25-30% of their power compaired to maybe 15% for me. I trapped 119 mph on street tires...most of the bikes at the track I saw were modded and only trapping 113-121...

Sorry for the long post. :assault:

LOL, thanks. It scared me too...I was to busy looking at the bike as I went buy that I didn't realize I was at the limiter in 5th already...thats a scary noise at 160 mph. But I'm positive it nearly made the guy on the R1 shard himself. :shit:

Massive respect on those kills. I bet the guys shit themselves when when you told them it was a 1.6.

Damn, that is pretty impressive. I always like hearing bike kills, especially with the 1.6

Nice Job man! Do you have any idea what year the R1 and R6 were? Did you happen to catch if the R1 had the dual under tail exhaust? or the regular side can? Once again Congrats! Awsome kills.

Thats impressive. I dont know what the correction factor is, but I went 10.1@134mph on an r1 down here (900ft)

Was that a stock R1? Most power differences on the dyno's show massive top end loss, even more noticable on N/A vehicles. A guy with a modded EVO VIII made 345 hp at 500 ft and 298 hp at 5500 ft...these are uncorrected numbers. While thats not a huge loss at peak, he notice the off boost power was much worse as well as turbo spool time. After the turbo peaked, it also dropped of much quicker as well. By redline he was making 72 hp less than he was at sea level. N/A vehicles suffer much more. Most mildly modded '04 R1's usually see high 11's at around 120 mph up here.

I know this is an old thread, but I figured I should mention I ran a 10.4 @ 141mph on my stock 04 R1 at about 2250ft elevation.

Congratulations on the kills, high speed runs are usually where bikes have trouble.

Not at 5,800 ft elevation. There are several posted 600's with minor bolt-ons that are usually mid 12's at 113 - 121 depending mostly on the rider. Smaller engines that are N/A at this elevation really suffer on the top-end more than anything. One guy on a R6 said he dyno'd an average loss of 31% vs his previous dyno at 500 ft elevation. Another guy in an EVO IX only lost an average of 18% when he moved from 550' So it really seems to play much more of a facter on the bikes. There was a guy with an '04 Gixxer 1000 and a turbo that ran a 10.7 @ 141 mph and there are a couple fully built bussa's in the 9's but thats really it. Most of the liter bikes are 11's with bolt on's. I have no doubt at lower elevation that I would never keep up with the R1. Elevation helps us turbo'd guys look a lot faster relative to N/A vehicles.

One odd thing we have also noticed is the roots style blowers are still losing around 20 - 25 %. Well, at least the Mustang Cobra's are....but that could just be a Ford thing.
