I race for the first time ever the other week. It was at our local drag strip. It was my first race. There are different brackets for high school, 1, 2,3 and 4. The tech guy put me in 3 but I should've been in 4. Anyway, in the test and tune period I got paired up with a Jetta. He had some mods on it and probaly thought he was a bad @$$ and was going to smash my stock 4g15. We pull up to the lights and they start flashing. The third yellow hits and I floor it. My foot is to the floor and the 15 is screamin. About half way he catches up to me and passes me. He wins, but later when I get my timeslip I found out that my r/t was .288 (not great but it was my first race ever) and his was .853. :finga:
I smoked him. Just goes to show you it doesn't matter what's on your car, it's how you use it.

ummm, if that was your r/t then you would have red-lighted... and still lost. but good job putting up a fight.

EDIT - i'm thinking i should elaborate... .500 is a perfect reaction time. what actually got measured was your anticipation time (if there was such a thing) anything under .500 and it's considered that you started before it actually flashed green on the christmas tree.

A bonestock 4g15 at the track? Is it a manual or 3 speed auto? Please let us know the trap speed and ET. This is gonna be funny.

Our track measures .000 as a perfect reaction time for some reason. I thought it was wierd too when I learned that.

My best ET of the day was 19.182 sec at just past 70 mph. Slow, but fun! It doesn't matter in high school races though, it's bracket racing. There were guys running way slower than me.

edit- I almost forgot. It is a 5-speed, but I only took it up to 3rd on my first pass and 4th on all subsequent passes.

ah, yeah, they're just not counting the r/t, that's all. still, i wonder what my old bone stock 4g15 with 3 speed auto would have run... i always wanted to get it on a dyno but could never justify spending money to dyno it LOL!

Using the ET method, I come up with 70 horsepower
Using the Speed method, I come up with 67 horsepower
Sounds right.

The only track in alaska is in Anchorage, along with the only dyno. I'd like to take a trip up there someday and dyno/run my modded 1.5 and see what I get.

Good job though!

Those hp figures sound about right for a 8 valver. I wonder what a stocker 12 valve runs...
