what if it was a 3000gt VR4? I says nothing in the story about it bieng a galant, and the 3S is geared to go well beyond 168.

GVR4 are galants, not 3000's

yes I know this, but nowhere in the story is the car referred to as a Galant, but always as a VR-4. It is said to be a GVR4 by the guy who made this thread, not the person who is speaking in the story.

I am simply stating that 168mph is NOT unspeakable in a 3S. They are geared to to well over that, my roommate has personally had his above 180. And in 91 (first year of the 3S) they were all five speeds, just like the 5-speed in the story.

I could be wrong, but like I said, this seems a lot more likely to me.

thats awfully damn fast in a leadsled non arodynamic galant....

believable but can you say heavy mods

140mph in a 1g - i believe it - i have hit 135 with stock fuel cut 14b in my laser - anything over 130mph though and that speedo is climbing damn slow

btw he is also a moron for going that fast - since chances are the tires on his galant were not rated for 168mph

a tire blowout at those speeds most likely = death

if the galant final drive is the same as a 1g - which im 90% sure it is then gearing is not an issue for 168mph

I ran out of room in my 1G around 148mph. Gearing is pretty much limited to around 150ish.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that our cars are limited to the gearing and tire size. In stock condition, that makes the top speed around 145mph.
All I am saying here is that it is WAY more likely that if he was going that fast and still climbing, that he was in a 3000gt than in a Galant.

well if he's got all those mods, i'm sure he thought of sticking some w, y, or z rated tires on it...

wonder how RRE got that black car to 180+mph then.......must've either had taller tires....raised rev limited....or higher 5th gear i guess...

btw would a 3si pull at that kinda speed - i mean shit - they do weigh almost 4000lbs

there is a 200mph 5th gear out for the DSM, but its straight cut and whines like reverse. I believe the RRE car had this instaled.

And a modified 3S can easily reach those speeds. As I said, my roommate has had his up to 180. And that was 150hp ago.

All I am saying here is that I find it much more believable that it was a 3000GT, and not a GVR4.

I dropped it to third and that was it. 125-130, fourth, 140-150, not watching the speedo anymore, I ran 4th out to 7500, grabbed a big handful of 5th and stayed in it.
also, this sounds a whole helluva lot like 3S gearing to me. I know my 1g sure as hell didn't go 125-130 in 3rd gear, or 140-150mph in 4th.

Yes, it is POSSIBLE to have gearing like that in a DSM. Daryl Hudson's DSM goes 160 in 4th, but its a strictly track car. This was obviously a street car.

A blow out at that speed with any car leads to death.

unior...... I been WELL OVER 150 mph untuned in my Colt.
If an untuned Colt can do it. The GVR4 certainly can.

No dis.. But Darryl Hudson's Orange 1G is a trailer queen that puts down 9's like we tie our shoes.

Not that it's even moral to do.. but if you've never been to the far side of 150, or you have no experience driving that fast on a controlled course or open road, then your comments are based on assumption rather than tangible experience.

Again.. ANY ASM with the correct mods [read: not unobtainable mods]
Will hit 160 with ease.

Ok, discussion ended. After searching the MachV forum, I found out the writer of that story was a guy named Dan (spyonyou for Mr Hyde) who is a good friend of mine and lives 30 minutes away! I simply asked him what he was in, and he said it was all done it this car:

man why are people so touchy on this board sometimes

colt = 2/3 the weight of the galant and fwd

makes a big difference on the highway - all i said was yes it would have to be heavily modded
