How do you get gasket material off? I have an inlet manifold I am preparing and it's got a sort of plastic material gasket still stuck on in various places.

I've tried hot water, doesn't help. I tried an ice scraper that didn't work either. I don't want to use something that'll damage the alloy material!
Some sort of thinner, paint brush cleaner? I imagine some glue might have been used.

Don't have any of that, I'll just let it soak in a combination of various ethanol based liquids I can find :) cheers

old fashion way is to scrape it off with a screw driver or razor blade without scratching the surface

Just use an orbital sander with some used 200-400 grit sand paper on it. Works a treat and is far less frustrating than using a blade.

use one of those green scotch-brite pads. you know the ones that your mom used to use to clean the skillet...

those things get anything off... I used to use it on my sword collection to get rust and tarnishing off..
