well i went to two shops the other day and they all said that it was gonna cost like 5000 cdn. when all said and done for a full rebuild on a 2.0 with rebuilt head and new clutch and flywheel installed. for that price and a little more i can get a pretyy heavily modified talon awd thats already has a rebuilt motor and tranny, im seriousley considering just going the talon route and selling my turbo colt. just too much time and money for what it is. god damn it i think my dream is over. what should i do i really whant the colt but it seems so distant and costly in the long run.

first off the colt.mirage is unique... and you think the colt's gonna be expensive... try to AWD DSM... you will need more money to go as fast b/c of all the weight... believe me AWD isnt everthing.. my car walks on aston martins, EVO's, ferraris, ZO6 vettes, SC mustangs.... the AWD dsm's break trans's.... stick with the mirage.. its a better route and a cool ass car...

i would have to agree. the colt/mirage are way more fun than the DSM thing. most people know about the DSM. not very many people know about the colt turbo.

Dang, it really isn't that expensive....they're just trying to rip you off. Everyone thinks it costs a fortune to build a fresh motor, well a fresh stock motor is cheap, it's when you opt for a forged internal rebuild that it gets real pricey. Just do it yourself, topline makes a complete 4G63t rebuild kit for $420 that includes ALL gaskets, Timing belt/ timing components, freeze plugs, new oil pump, new pistons, new rings, new main bearings, and new rod bearings. All the stuff that comes with the topline kit is as good as OEM. I think if you pay $80 extra you get an upgraded kit with a toga high volume oil pump, and toga high performance main & rod bearings (don't laugh @ the name, toga makes very good stuff) . Besides the kit, all ya need is tools (torque wrench, etc), new head bolts (at least I think the OEM are torque to yield), some assmbly lube, plasti-gauge, and a water pump.....You would just need somone to hone it (or bore/hone if you go oversize), probably deck the head and block surfaces, a fresh valve job and you have got a fresh engine for well under $1,000 (BTW, all the prices I mentioned are USD).

I don't think I would pay anyone to build a motor, it's such an easy thing to do, even if you had never done it before, you could get a haynes manual or something and follow their instructions and get it right.

But....you can also get a complete engine from topline if you like, A completely assembeled 4G63t runs $1400 (I don't think a core is due)

Ok, I'll just get ya the prices
BTW, these are all from this vendor( http://www.importperformanceparts.net/i ... index.html ), there may even be a cheaper one out there.

Here's for the pre-built prices:
ECLIPSE TURBO
GALANT TURBO
4G63 1997cc(122.1")
1990-92
16 VALVE; DOHC 4; F.INJ.
85mm(3.346")
88mm(3.46")
CEMI6T
$1427.00......Complete engine
SBMI6T
$829.00........short block
CHVMI6T
$468.00.........head w/valves

Here's what each is:

Complete Engine: short block assembled with complete cylinder head, all timing components and oil pump; no oil pan, valve covers, or manifolds are included

Short Block: machined and assembled with over-sized pistons, rings, matching crank kit, connecting rods and camshaft (if applicable)

Cylinder Head: New or non-welded remanufactured head assembled with valves, guides, springs, retainers, keepers and valve stem seals

These sound cheaper than the jerks who quoted you those insane prices :D .

as for the other stuff you would need manifold so forth and so on and be picked up from the parts trader cheap or from everyone here.

One of the main reasons why I am trying to purchase the Mirage/Colt turbo. The car doesn't stick out. It's the perfect sleeper! Plus the lightweight factor of the car is a big WooHoo!. You won't need alot of HP to pull the thing down the road.

I own a 90 GSX. It was fun and all, but I'm tired of it already. Once I get my hands on a M/C turbo, I'll sell my GSX. And I won't need to worry about snapping the center diff or snapping the rearend ever!

If you are in Canada and want a rebuilt 4G63 you want to go and see 'Wog Boy' Marco Passante :) at Magnus Motorsports. I wouldn't trust most non-specialised mechanics to build up a 4G63 engine

I bought a 4g63 from my work for real cheap :D 210lbs comp. on all four cylinders! A little white smoke. Gonna replace those leaky valve seals and belts and gaskets and i'm there! :D If you ask a junkyard for a running smoker motor theyll sell them real cheap. They dont get much for a core motor. Any reputable yard wont sell a smoker as a good motor cause they cant warranty it. $100 is typical for one you can rebuild. Make sure to ask for one that hasnt blown the timing belt!
As an example;
Yesterday i pulled a motor with a blown head gasket for a customer, $100. They needed a short block. Got the whole thing.

Bill over here at holeshot performace will build a 6 bolt pretty cheap..i think bone stock with 95 pistons its somewhere around 1000 a stock block with just the pistons in it. None of his cars have failed...and if they did it was to drivers stupidity (ex running the car hard with the knock count maxing out at 40 on the datalogger)
