Is it possible to place a 2000 elantra engine in a '89 colt? I have a chance to get my hands on one. Thanks

Probably, but how easy and would it be worth it? I say probably not.

The Elantra motor, given it is the 2.0L version, uses the Hyundai 'Beta' motor. IMO its not such a great motor (compared to the 1G 4G63). Ultimately it would be a huge PITA to fit that motor since it mounts on the opposite side of the engine bay to the 1G 4G6x & 4G15 motors.

My advice is just go with the tried-and-true 4G63T conversion - you wont be sorry. The aftermarket parts scene for the 4G63 is far more mature for starters.
