Today, I had a police officer come a verify the VIN on the car against the VIN on the title. He first looked at the tag on the dash, up by the windshield. It did not match. He then looked at the door jamb sticker, and it had the matching VIN. He signed off on it and went about his merry way.

Just curious though, why did they not match?

dash might have been replaced and they didnt think to change the tag?

Vin on dash is riveted in place, and when original matches the B-pillar steel plate with your VIN/build data. Secondly, the firewall has the C10AKUXXXXXX code where the exes represent the serial digits from your VIN, last six of your vin for sure, which will match your B-pillar vin and if the car is unmolested and the dash was never changed, will match that vin plate too. So, there is a three way check system in place. Dash means nill once it is changed, but oddly is the part evident when the car is closed and nothing is open for inspection, which could initially throw a person looking at the car, for a loop and have them thinking that this, "isn't the correct VIN for these plates", etc etc.

Glad to hear it worked out. Was the officer inspecting the car on your property or was there a driving infraction involved or was this a car of "so my friend had this happen to him today". insert wink wink here

Most 3g dashes look like crap these days but you can get lucky and find a good one. That's probably what happened. The dash pad itself comes right off though and is easy to swap out. This way you retain the original plastic dash with the correct VIN. Guess they didn't do that.

Thanks for the info.
I'll have to go out and check to see if the last portion of the dash matches the VIN elsewhere.

And I had to call out an officer to verify the VIN so I can title it (yes that means I'm keeping it).

Hurray for keeping it! wink wink

You likely got a VIN savvy officer. haha They are aware of the various ways vins show up and or can be fiddled with, so you had no issue overall and this is good.

I did!

I posted the CMS FB page as an introduction kind of thing. I guess a lot of people were thinking it was a for sale thread. Someone "local" made an offer and said he would come down the next day (yesterday, Sunday) to pick it up if he was happy with it after a quick inspection. He showed up, checked the car out, I was paid, and then it was loaded up and trailered away.

What will your daughter say!

Any plans for another project, or is it wait and see?

I'm looking around now, but am kind of all over the place.
There is a 93 240sx near me that is owned by a couple in their 80s.
Or a JZGTE swapped SC300 in Georgia.
A clean 2g DSM in Illinois also.

Or I may pick up an IS300 and play with it.

I wish I could find a GVR4 that was in my price range. Or another swapped or 4g61t CSM hatch (one that runs of course).

OR, if I land a new job I was recently interviewed for, I may just go for a Later model Pontiac GTO.

Who knows though.
