VW does it again ;).

If you snag a nice little pump, be sure to find something to enclose it in when you mount it under the car...the one failing with the inline VW/bosch pump is that it is constantly exposed to the elements and will go bad on you very fast :(. I believe Berserko has some experience with this ;).

Yes you have no idea how many pumps I went through on my old A1's I found an old camry has a rubber condom for their fuel pump I snagged it and it fit my VW pump like a glove and I think that was the last pump I ever bought...

Alright, I was at the 'yard today, and looked at several vw's from the '85-'88 era, and I saw what I think to be the pump, but, whats with all the other stuff around it, and can the pump itself be used without all the other junk? maybe the golf gti's are different pumps? or maybe I'm missing something, but the one pump I did pull didn't have a fuel line going in, but rather appeared to be in a smaller collector tank of some kind?

Am I crazy? or did I find the wrong pump?

Also, the weather shoudn't be a problem, as I plan to mount the pump inside my trunk (don't worry, it's still below the bottom of the tank.) thank you for the advice though, I'm sure it would be terribly dissapointing to get the thing working only to have a corroded pump throw a wrench into the mix.

Tony

That box is a fuel accumulator if you want to be extra safe you can run it but its not required as for different pumps a VW pump is a VW pump 85 up had CIS-E but I think te pump still will work you just want to avoid late 80's fox's and such because they were the first Digfant car (shudder)

True, avoid the digifant cars...its kinda hard unless you look under the hood and see the fuel distributor on top of the airbox (that is the good ones, CIS, CIS-E, etc). The MkII's you can use are the 85-88 models, the box is just there to keep the pump from cavitating under load. If you can find a nice Rabbit/Scirocco pump then you are aces though...same pump, no box.

You ever get pics of how you had to bend the linkages? I'm undergoing this right now. The 1.5l cables don't seem to slickly mount to the point on the tranny where they go without putting some tension on the cables. And the clutch fluid line doesn't quite reach the slave, did you have to extend it or is it just being stubborn?

Well, I used the slave line and clutch slave from an authentic colt turbo so that could explain why I had no issues....did you get the sonata slave with yours? Maybe something could be done with that?

And as for the cables...my front-to-back cable is quite kinked at the cable holder actually :). Still shifts fine though...might eventually cause some trouble but for now its ok. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow...my car is with a friend right now so I can't do it right away.

Thanks.. yeh, i got the sonata's slave on there but it should work just as good if i flare the end and extend it, it doesn't use one of those bango bolts either! Youre cars with a friend? I'm not even going to let my girlfriend drive when i'm done

Here is a pic of the kink in my front to back cable...its pretty :). Soon I expect that it will give out, but for now it is fine.

Now here is a pic of the modded sonata linkage, basically we tried to bend it into the basic shape of the colt gt one...we got close, but not quite all the way there. Seems to work fine, with the exception that shifting into first is sometimes fiddly, but that is ok :). Once we flattened the sonata arm, we twisted it slightly back at the pivot/cable connection in order to make the connection better. I cannot remember if we used the colt up and down arm, or the sonata one...I guess just use the one that fits. The sonata one is a bit longer I think.

That is why we ended up modding the darn sonata one :).

Could not get the damn pin out, even with the drill...although I am sure with good drill bits it might only take a few hours :D.

I am currently using the stock 1.6 NA axles...but I originally had the colt GT equal length axles and they fit perfectly as well :).
