Since here in Germany it is not allowed to cut the frame I was just wondering if som1 is running a FMIC with the stock radiator and would share a good rooting for the IC-piping :)
Maybe even som pics?:) everything quit tight in the front...
In the build section i primarily found either cutted frame or water/air intercooler or the small civic radiators. But i'm after another solution ;)

Thanks so far

Unless you make the piping super long I just don't see it happening. I kept the stock radiator when I put an I/C on Nick's (jdmhotness) car but had to trim a little bit of metal and relocate the windshield washer tank.

Define cut frame? I ran a stock evo8 fmic with no problem, now i am working on a greddy 3 row that works with stock radiator, but trimming was required for short route piping.

I'm betting he means cut the bumper support. Just guessing though...

I think the only way you would have a chance is with going with a scirroco radiator. It would give you enough room on either side so you wouldnt have to snip the core support sheet metal. I think you would have to mount any fmic super low if you didnt want to cut the bumper support and also be a good tubing fabricator for the bends.

or like mentioned above you would have to do some crazy convoluted long route setup

Okay thanks so far for the input. Yes I primarily referred to the bumper support. "Modifying" the bumper support would make it impossible to pass the inspections here. Lets see what route I'll be following :)

Do you have the 8 MPH thick metal bumper support or the super thin Euro/JDM GTi bumper support?

I didn't cut a damn thing, and my intercooler is pretty darn big.

Ok, it might be rediculously long. LOL

Just let whoever you buy the J-pipe from know that it needs to be real tight. A stock thin radiator should fit the J-pipe either way.

Ebay unit that fit really well, had to trim a little sheet metal on either side of stock radiator:

I did trim the bumper bar only to get more airflow.

Like Tim said.. I don't think he has US spec bumper.
In his avatar, bumper is Euro GTi one.
All euro gti bumpers that we mounted, non had bumper support like US one.

Yes you could. i would look at like a evo x intercooler. It will fit where the condenser fits for the AC. you just have to cut the side outlet and relocate it to the rear side of the intercooler. You then can run a thinner rad like the vw scirocco radiator or anything that fits between the 2 outlets. I tried the dual core honda rad but cant displace enough heat on +80F days. I didn't have to cut anything but i did unbolt the bracket that goes for the upper radiator support to the lower radiator support and bent myself a new bracket. I might have pictures out there somewhere. This would fit with a 14b or 16g but nothing bigger.

Edit
I meant to say: I know this is not the stock rad but another option

^He was asking about fitting the IC while keeping the stock radiator in place.

I have a Starion/Conquest intercooler core, with switch back piping.

I can't weld alum, so this was a deal that came by way of George Billings, who got it down the line from the M&S Recycling Colt/Mirage.

It could have been designed with different end tanks, quite obviously.

Short route, requires cutting of the rad support and you will lose the windshield washer bottle.
Will require a relocate if you want to keep that front and rear spray function.

My USDM bumper rebar was already cut from the attempt by the PO to gain more airflow across the GVR4 intercooler (which is nearly a perfect bolt on, nearly).

My GTi bumper will not clear the bumper with this piping, quite the way I was hoping, thus the reason it is not installed yet.

Stock sized GVR4 radiator (relocated upper hose location/bleed port), and stock fan shroud. I need to incorporate an AC fan because I have full AC installed. With R12.
