Hey there.
Im in the process of lowering my car,
I bought some brand new springs and started taking the shock absorbers of (front and rear)
Now the only issue I have is if your looking at the shock from the top, there is a bolt that holds the whole thing together (without it the spring would shoot out)

How do I undo that bolt without the actual shock arm (that moves up and down... silver) turning. when I try to undo it it turns with the bolt...

How do I stop it turning I cant seem to find any other bolts or anything to grip with?
Was thinking of vice grips but that may damage the shockie?

Any info on this would be appreciated

I use an air gun, make sure you have a spring compressor to do the job safely.

^^^^^ What he said. compress the spring with at least 2 spring compressors. Then hit that bolt with a Impact gun and it will come off.

I grabbed a spring compressor from Harbor Freight for less than $20. If you don't have an air gun wrap a rag around the shaft and clamp it with visegrips, just be careful not to scratch it up.

I always used the vicegrip trip that 89Mirageman mentioned until I got an impact. :fencing:

Ive had an impact still spin it round. . . A rag and a pipe wrench close to the top as you can get. Close to the top in case you dimple the piston rod.
