I've used various Walbro in-tank pumps, Walbro in-line pumps, and a whopper SX Performance in-line pump. None of them would hold pressure for more than a few minutes. I've never noticed my car needing to crank longer in order to start after installing a different fuel pump either.

Fuel cells normally come with these one-way "check" valves or "rollover" valves that act as a vent and safety valve in the event of going rubber side up. http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS-Performance- ... 7/10002/-1

If you want to remove your charcoal canister and associated lines and so forth it would probably be best to use one of these valves so that the fuel tank can vent but still be safe in the event of a rollover or gravity deciding to switch directions.

the charcoal canister is gone.. alone with motor and trans when I got the car.. so im just trying to get the smelly fumes out of engine bay..

this is a image of the tank.. number 16 is the vent im talking about and it is listed as being a fuel cutoff valve.. so im assuming it shuts off in case of roll over?..

That very well could have a valve in it much like those valves I linked from Jegs. The fuel tank vent on these cars is controlled by the ECU closing/opening a solenoid that vents the fuel tank through the charcoal canister. I am not sure if the solenoid is normally open or closed.

My friend deleted the charcoal canister on his Civic hatch and simply crimped/rolled up the vent hose coming from the tank up to charcoal canister. When he would put fuel in the car the tank would suck in air loudly for about 10 seconds after removing the gas cap. He needed to prevent that vacuum from building by using a vent that allowed the tank to replace that volume of fuel that was being consumed with air.

so after doing some research is seems it might be caused from a 1) wrong sized o'ring..2) o'ring not seated correctly.. I found 2 or 3 threads that say u can use a injector o'ring (the thicker ones) so im gonna try that tomorrow and will post up results about the bleedoff issue.

so I dropped the tank today.. pulled the pump and wall ahh the oring was all deformed... so I used the trick I read last night where u use injector seals.. it was very slightly loose on the pump.. but wouldnt fit into the housing.. had to finagle the oring into the housing first... the slid the pump in..made for a tighter fit.. once i got it back together I started the car.. 38 psi..dropping to 20 after about 7 min... after 12-13 min it was still at 20....

SOOO!!!!!! for anyone who had a FPR gauge and it drops when u shut the car off... its the oring on the pump..
