on my colt I had nexen 3000's on it and as FWD they kinda sucked for traction.. I was wondering what others are running or recommend for a DD/street car that arent like 140 each ![]() Steve |

Generally the lower the tread wear rating the better the traction but the lower the tread life is. IE: a tread wear of 400 should last twice as long as a tread wear 200 tire but at the cost of traction due to the 400 wear tire being a harder material. A 200 material tire will give you more traction being softer but will wear faster. There is no standard for manufacture tread wear ratings, Bridgestone will rate there tires differently than Kumho for example. This is what I run and I'm fairly happy with them for the price I paid.. They had a sale and I got mine for 280 shipped for 4.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-NEW-225-50-15 ... 7b&vxp=mtr 225/50-15 KUMHO ECSTA AST 50R R15 |

i was very suprised at the tires i ran falken ziex ze512, and their successor (i believe) the ze912 great lasting tire, excellent all around performance in wether, and decent traction for around 70 a piece. 225/50r15 |

Kumho Ecsta LE Sport are pretty good. I have a set on my Volvo, so far they've lasted about a year and a half (~30,000 miles), and I drive that car pretty hard. I autocrossed once on these tires, and I've done lots of canyon runs on them. They have a 280 treadwear. Granted, the Volvo is no powerhouse. Now that I'm due for a new set of tires, I bought the Kumhos again. They were about $90 each. I have Hankook Ventus RS-3's on the Eclipse. Those tires are absolutely amazing. They are a bit more expensive, and only have a 140 treadwear, so I wouldn't want to use them for a DD, but holy hell, the grip! |

thanks for the input guys.. and for the inside on the treadwear rating nocturnal.. I forgot to mention I dont drive alot.. the colt got 7k miles on it in just over 2 years. so ill look for a 200-300 .. im more worried about traction than life span. ill see what I can find in the Kumhos and hankooks Steve |

Ive always liked BFG Radial T/A for lighter cars, but they need time to warm up before you get the grip you're looking for. Not really keen on the new hankooks, better to check out the Conti PureContact. I'm currently running Cooper RadialGTs and I love them on dry pavement, but they're a bit too stiff for wet and they feel sloppy. If you're looking for all-out grab the road by the balls and yank, take a look at the Xi2 Michelin, they're awesome streetable but you might actually wear them out before they weather check. |

Tires are one of those things you don't want to cheap out on, they really can make or break the car. |

Yes generally but it can depend on the off-set of your wheels. I would say +40 to +46 will be your safe zone. |

Check my build thread, I'm running 225/50 on a +34 offset, it's flush in the rear and sticks out a tad in the front. |
