thanks for the review.

there 300 rating.. I have been looking at these since I started this thread... but they dont make em in the size I need.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-NEW-205-50-16 ... c1&vxp=mtr

I had 205s on the colt and the speedo was off.. i need 215s to keep it as close to accurate as I can get. was even looking at 225s but there off also.

if I was awd I would just get some bfg's lol.. useless to buy 2 for the back tho.

205/215/225 refers to the width of the tire, and this has no effect on the speedometer. The height of the tire is what will effect the speedo, and the "50" number is a ratio of the width of the tire to the width of the tire, so a 50-series tire will be taller than a 45-series, and so on.

yeah I thought about that after I posted... should of put full size....

colt had 205 50 16s...... to get speedo correct I need 215 55 16s.. at least thats what the tire calculator says.

also what tire would you run if it was ur car? I have 16" rims.

Steve

This is the problem with 16" rims. There aren't a lot of tire options out there, since 16's are hardly used anymore on cars. Who cares if the speedo is a little off? If you have a smart phone there are tons of free speedometer apps that use GPS, if you really need to know how fast you're going. I would run as wide of a tire as humanly possible on whatever width rim I was using. I'd go 225/50...this is what I have on my Eclipse. You could also run 205/55's, because that's an extremely common size that is usually available in just about any type of tire.

These are more for road-racing and auto-x use, very stiff sidewall, which does not lend itself well to drag racing. To be honest, I've never heard of these tires before, but they look decent for the price.

I'm never a fan of mis-matched tires on anything. If handling isn't a big concern, then give it a try.

Yeah, these aren't to be confused with the G-Force Drag Radials, which are only about a 40 treadwear I think. Not really meant for street use. These tires are ok, but kind of over-priced if you ask me.

I was looking at the Hankook Ventus RS-3's you posted about on the first page... been seeing alot of mixed reviews.. mostly about how noisy they are and not a good DD tire cause of that..

I have also been looking at http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... mpare1=yes there 300 rating but get alot of good reviews..
any input on them?

Steve

Yeah, Ventus RS-3's are way too soft to use every day. I don't have any experience with these particular Dunlops, but the D1 Direzza Star Specs are very awesome tires, again, not great for DD use. I really like the Kumho Ecsta LE Sports for a DD tire. I have them on my Volvo. They only size they make in 16" is a 205/55. I liked them so much, I bought them twice when it was time for new tires again.

The 2254517 bfg drag radials I had were zero treadware rated and the only tires I could actually hook up in third gear in.i still need to check my offset but the car is out of town now. Anyhow I ran the drs in front and some cheap tires in back. It worked fine you just have to adjust your driving to compensate.

Having less-grippy tires in the rear on a FWD car is actually a good way to prevent understeer. It's pretty common in racing circuits to run a smaller tire in the rear and even a smaller wheel diameter in the rear as well. Of course, if you have something like drag radials up front, the car isn't gonna handle great anyway, but you know what I mean.

I decided im gonna try a set of the Dunlop Direzza DZ101 up front and leave my nexens in back for now.. if it seems to work ok then when its time to get new rears ill get same size as front in a little higher treadware rating...

thanks for everyones input.

Steve
