My 4g63 colt is just about ready for the road. It's going to mostly bes fun street car and I'm pretty sure my wife will want to drive it every once and while.
The way it sits now with the balance shafts removed and the window weld motor mounts the car shakes pretty good at idle.
The motor is stock bottom end with arp mains, and head bolts.
Mls gasket
Som type of mild regrinds
Custom mani with precision 6262 and 38mm gate
And a big front mount
Running megasquirt with just 550 injectors.
Plan is on around 300hp so I'd rather not run all stock mounts, if I was too replace two of them with stock which would be my best bet to knock some of the shake out without letting the motor flop around?

Thanks
Randy

Transmission mount and timing belt mount.

Front to back are the ones that get rocked around really good, when loading the drivetrain.
Many people put in solid mounts, but everything gets transferred to the transmission and axles at that point.

Pulled those two off and the window weld pried right out witha screw driver. The mounts turned out to be brand new, guess the person who started the project bought new ones all around to fill.
Back in the car and it made a huge difference.

Thanks

Great to hear.

I run urethane inserts at all 4 engine bay corners, and well, it's a serious amount of vibration ... but I have balance shafts.

Sounds like you have a fun project on your hands.

What are your power goals? big rpms? big hp? If you just want a fun DD i would put the balance shafts back, you and your wife will enjoy more the rides with them, just try to go with a good quality timing belts, kevlar timing belts would be the best...

Doing the two side mounts made it plenty smooth. Not sure of where our will end up yet, but already have a pretty quick little straight line hatch.
Pretty sure an awd swap will be in its future though.

I filled my front/rear mounts and ran without a tranny mount. It was crazy enough to work and it did. Only thing that went badly was the edge of the inner body structure wore into my tranny case, nothing a tiny glob of rtv couldn't fix. I eventually stuck a tranny mount in though, didn't change too much.

Last pic shows a serious amount of frontage for an intercooler! Spearco type design strategy I assume.

Just a core I had laying around so I made it work. Should cool very well with next to no pressure drop.

the first time you seriously wheel hop that thing with the soft mounts you may regret it...

looks nice, like the two cars side by side! I to am using window weld all 4 mounts. I made sure to do them right, I felt it in the wheel at idle. I think I just got use to it, differently makes a difference. I also eliminated the rubber bushings for the cross member, all solid.

How did you remove the balance shafts? A 4g63 with out balance shafts removed correctly shouldn't shake as much.

Just used one of the kits that came with bearings, stub and cap.
