Post subject:  alternator grounding issue

i did my wire tuck on my elantra and redid the alt power wire. when i bolt the power wire to the stud on the alternator it fries the grounding wires from the engine to car. what is causing this and how do i fix it?

It almost sounds like something's wrong with the alternator. That post should be insulated from the case of the alternator.

Read the voltage at the post and off of the case of the alternator. Friend had the same issue on his truck, needed a new ground wire from the battery to the engine.

I kind of have the same problem.. Just put in new motor and the car is not charging at all, altenator is not even a year old. I have about 4 ground wires to the block and one straight from the battery to tranny.. Check of the fuses and they all good! I always had an isuue with it, if i didnt rev the car at start up it woulnt charge. But now not charging at

It fixed my issue. But it sounds like you have a bad voltage regulator or something isn't plugged in

Least you solved your problem. I was driving on the highway heading to my unit, after a hard pull on highway my colt shut off.first thing comes to mind is the worst that could possibly happened..I was under hood looking kept replacing one the main three fuses but kept poping once key moved and was like crap formation I'm gonna be late..lucky dot tow Guy gave free lift to my unit. Turned out to be a wire coating came off and was touching. I went threw each wires found it in bay traced back to Ecu and rewired
