I am considering using a turbo blanket on my 84 restoration and wanted to know if anyone on the forum is using one. If so could you share your experience and the manufacturer and type of blanket you are using?

Thanks,

Ive used one from boost-logic (they focus on higher power supras) on an older T4 powered 4g63 car. Definately helped drop heat in the engine bay and helped a little on spoolup but nothing night and day.

Ive actually still got the turbo blanket here. its black and fits T4 hotsides mainly (.68 ar and larger) and im not using it.

I have used a few different blankets on several applications. After a while the standard ones fade and get hard. I recommend the dei titanium ones. They are expensive, but do not fade, and do not get brittle when they age.

As a testimate of how well turbo blankets work. Between runs at the track with my bosses 240sx drift car, we noticed some smoke from the engine bay. I opened the hood and removed the turbo blanket with my bare hand. The exhaust housing was glowing red underneath. I did not get burnt. That alone makes me highly recommend turbo blankets.

A link to the titanium blankets.

I have a DEI T3 blanket, fit great on a ceramic coated 7CM TD05H turbine housing.
I use an external wastegate on O2 housing so i dont know if this blanket is friendly with the stock WG arm ...

You need perfects oil feed and return connections, the car is going to catch on fire if oil hits the hot turbine housing with an soaked blanket :-?

DEI blankets are good ones and I would recommend DEI and ours compared to the cheaper ones that are all mostly made in China.

We have a Lava series line that is similar to DEI's titanium. Check them out on our website. www.ptpturboblankets.com

If it has the actuator arm, I recommend using a flat style blanket, such as our Subaru Turbo Blanket. This flat style will wrap around the turbo without interfering with the actuator arm.

Oh wow, totally forgot about DSM tuners! I may have to call them up to get vendorship on them again.

Our team has totally changed since then, we have really been understaffed in the past and now have a dedicated support team for all questions, issues, and custom developments.

We now have our Subaru Turbo Blankets in the Lava (Titanium) material to perform much better than the regular fiberglass ones we offer. The price is much more, but if someone needs that extra heat treatment, it is the way to go.

We can't really compare our flat style turbo blanket to the regular style blankets, the regular style will retain more heat with it's thicker insulation. But for situations like this, you can't use them and the flat style is the next best option.

Don't get me wrong, the flat style does a really good job at retaining the heat. You will definitely notice the difference.

@ptpturboblankets

how will the t3 version of the lava work with a holset turbine housing?
in particular the he351cw with internal gate still intact from the 2005-2007 dodge cummins trucks?
