I noticed my factory driver's side axle was leaking grease at the inner CV joint.(right where it bolts to the block) This is the GT axle with intermediate shaft. I bought new axles from Carquest for both sides. I got about 1000mi on them when I noticed the driver's inner CV joint leaked out all the grease and was starting to click already. So I exchanged it under warranty. I've had another new Carquest axle installed for 1 week and noticed it's leaking grease now too. The car has Koni yellows and Sportline springs up front so it sits lower but not extreme. It sure doesn't look like there is an extreme angle on that CV joint so I don't know why it keeps leaking. Could worn engine mounts/roll stops allow the engine to rock enough to put a bad angle on that CV joint? The only one that keeps going bad is the driver side inner. Yes I have spacers under the bolts where it mounts to the block so that shouldn't be the problem. I'm going to install poly engine mounts anyway. I hope that stops the car from eating that CV joint. |

Here's a pic of the cv joint. It doesn't look like an extreme angle to me. I see no reason it should be leaking unless Carquest axles are just crap. I never should have got rid of the stock axles.

He is using the equivalent sized spacer in place of the AC compressor bracket. Should be just fine that way. Strange the axles keep leaking. Is the boot pulling loose from the inner most sealing area around the tripot? |
