91 colt 4g63 colt swap
Fwd dsm tranny
Ss clutch line
Xtd stage 4 pp w/ clutch net unsprung 4 puck with resurfaced flywheel

Car drives good, shifts into all gears while driving.. But there is no free play. The clutch engages right off floor before clutch pedal is fully released. The clutch fork is in middle when not pressed. When pressed in the clutch is hitting the trans. Question is how many shims have you used with after market setup?

Setup one: 4G63T, W5m33, Act Chromoly flywheel, six puck clutchmasters disc, Clutchmasters PP, zero shims.

Setup two: all same exept ACT disk, and resurfaced flywheel, still zero shims.

Friends car: 4g63 DSM, KM206, Stock N/A flywheel, ACT 2100 PP, ACT 6 puck disk, zero shims.

Probably over a dozen other aftermarket stock replacement clutches in random customers DSMs over the years, zero shims.

Unless your flywheel has been cut down below it's normal usable limit, you really should never have to shim the pivot ball. Something is probably bent, worn out, loose, or out of adjustment.

Appreciate the response... Yea mine shifts great just engages right off floor.. Did yours engage right off floor or did you have that play before it engaged?

.608" to .610" is ideal for DSM performance clutches. I had it resurfaced within specs. Everything is replaced, Except I never replaced the pivot ball or clutch fork. It looked fine to me. The clutch fork when clutch is not pressed in, is in the middle. It shifts great, except there is no play in the clutch pedal, when pressed in all the way to floor, the shift fork is against the housing, and cant be pressed in that extra bit. And engages right off floor before being released all the way..

replace pivot ball/ shift fork? Extend slave rod? But extending slave rod is putting more stress on tob, fork etc.. Everything was done correctly, :ANAL: I just never shim the pivot ball, & reading some posts seeing how people have shim it. Just curious before I go ahead & take trans down. Being at my friends, Noticed when pressing in the clutch it goes against housing & you cant get that extra play. I just dont want it to cause damage to housing. Trying see how many shims people have used

My stock N/A clutch used to engage right off the floor, but I solved that when I adjusted the upper pedal stop (cruise cut switch) so I had more pedal travel. When I did that, I also had to readjust the master cylinder pushrod to compensate for the difference, but I didn't have a problem with the fork hitting the pressure plate. I would suspect insufficient step height assuming the cylinders are of the correct diameters.

Are you sure the block is seated against the transmission fully? Is the fork bottoming out against the bellhousing, or the pressure plate?

If the fork and ball aren't worn, then there must be a bunch of flywheel cut away, and I would start with a single average thickness washer.

Pivot ball and fork looked good, I never replaced. Trans bolts are still torqued down and flush against. The flywheel was within spec after resurfaced. Shift fork sits in middle of the window. When pushed to floor, and then pushed some more it hits against the housing. And engages right off floor, no free play when releasing clutch pedal
