so over the past two days ive been hearing a whine in lower gears that would come and go. today i was driving home and all the sudden my ACT stage 2 2600lbs clutch got mysteriously easy to push in and was almost all the way out till it grabbed. when i got home i pushed in the clutch and i heard a whining noise, and my engine would almost stall. I knew it was bad but needed to check in to my new unit 45 mins away. foolishly i drove and got 5 miles down the road till my clutch went completly solid and would not go into gear. I managed to slam it into 2nd and limp home. when the car is off i have clutch feel like normal but when the car is on my clutch is a rock and the car stalls. my clutch is fine, my gears are fine, master cylinder was just changed 2 months ago and my fluid is fine... I just bought a new slave cylinder but doubt its that... Is it my throw out bearing??? I have a disheartening suspicion its the clutch release bearing but im not positive... can anyone help me out?? the engine is a 91' 4g63 and its a FWD tranny from a 92'

Bleed your clutch. If that doesn't work, take a look at your slave cyl under the vehicle on the tranny. The bar sometimes bends/breaks or the cyl slips out. Have a friend press in the clutch to see how its actuating. If all else fails pull the tranny and see what's up in the clutch housing.....take the front wheels off, remove the lower strut bolts , remove the cv axels, pull of all of the ancellarry equipment connected to the tranny, and then pull the tranny. A newb can pull a tranny in a day and replace it in a day. A csm expert can do it in about 2 hours.
Good luck

More than likely the TOB is toast yes. Can't say for sure yet, but you could put a stethoscope inside where the rubber boots covers the bellhousing and hope it does not wing off moving parts while you scope out that sound. Well, not that this is a laughing matter, but it is probably the TOB with a lack of lubrication, or at least we hope that is all it is. Once that transmission is down, it may be best to look at replacing anything you can inside that bellhousing while you can. Clutch fork of the first design and a stronger pressure plate like the 2600 can mean breakage long term. Pivot ball, TOB, fork (gen 2 style), slave, master, braided clutch line are all things to consider depending what combination you have right now and how new they are.

Replace your throw out bearing with an oem one and call it a day.
