High temp engine enamel works fine. Used it alot on my engines and it never goes bad.

There's also a "wrinkle" paint that gives a really nice texture to the valve cover.

The main thing to do to insure that the paint sticks is to prep the cover well. Clean it with some kind of paint stripper or really good sanding.

ok, but engine enamels (sp?) don't come in very nice colors very often?!
right?
like someone on this board that just got underway with a swap, his donor car had a nice blue color valvecover.
I like to have mine in some "bodypaint" style finish.
well I guess I have to keep looking.
might talk to someone that accually works with bodypaints and stuff.

thanks

You're probably going to want to get it powder coated then. If you can find someone with a home powder coating system, they should do it for pretty cheap. texmirage would do it for you, but being in Texas, the shipping is going to be prohibitive.

That used to be true, but now with the Import craze paint companies are offering high temp paint in a much wider viriaty of colors. Last time I was at the parts shack I saw about 15 colors at a glance, and there were probably more, I just didn't bother to look.

I used a powder coat which was expensive, but there are several engine enamels on the market that I used on other parts. Some are for 500o others are for 1200o. However, the 1200's require heat curing. READ THE INSTRUCTION THOROUGHLY. Some require 650o, while others are up to 400o. The 400 level can be handled in your own oven with an accomodating or absent wife(I opted for absent). There is a worrysome smell, but it's alright. Bill Spruill, oldest Colt
