Looking at Kris_Mirage's recent work and glancing at Devolutions problems, I'm reminded of a project I had seen and was going to try and take on to avoid installing an engine with unknown history before confirming it's at least in passably running shape. I'm talking about plugging a simplified or modified harness and ECU onto a supported engine-either on a cherry picker or a test stand type of frame, rigging up a battery, fuel source, starter, cooling, etc, etc and running the engine outside of the car. What I'm talking about is what some local did with his 6G72 a little over a year ago.

Here are a couple of links:

You'll notice he didn't bother with the MAF for this as the engine doesn't have any load on it and I guess is essentially running in limp mode. I think he also ran it with a NA harness, ECU and injectors even though that is a turbo engine.

I had actually contacted him when I saw this video and asked him if he would sell a modified harness or directions so I could test an engine the same way, but he showed little interest in do in so.

So my question is this- is there anyone here who would be interested in tackling this type of project- for me for a 6g72, but I would mind having the same thing for a 4G63 as well. 89Mirageman, Kris_Mirage, you both seem pretty familiar with DSM/CSM harnesses, any interest? I would have to think there would be a market for such a thing.

I don't think it'd be that hard to do honestly. Just get a full harness and set-up the motor with a proper fuel flow and then work the bugs out. I have a spare harness and am bouncing the idea around in my head to see if I wanted to do it. If you wanna go for it and need advice I'm more than happy to try but being there hands on would be a little difficult...

Honestly if it were me I would just do a leak down test and pull the main and rod bearings and look them over well. Both of these are pretty simple and should ensure a decent engine.
