OK guys, I am getting very close to dropping the engine back in the car but I still don't have a tranny. There is a 92 FWD Expo at one of the local junkyards with a 5 speed tranny in it. Its my understanding these have the large bell housing and the larger flywheel and clutch like the turbo dsm tranny. I'm wondering how the gearing will be compared to a KM210 or an F5M33? These wagons came with a SOHC 2.4 with a little over 100hp but I think it will be strong enough for a turbo engine. Sadly there are no turbo dsm's in the yard at this time except for a 92 laser with 200k on it and I think I'll pass on that one.

Something tells me you're gonna have to be the first person to try this.

Well I know the tranny will work with the 4G63 because the wagons use a narrow block 4G64. I also think this particular tranny has the csm style shift levers but I'd have to look at it again to be sure. I was basically asking about the gear ratios, wondering how they would compare to the KM210 or the F5M33?

I don't think anyone knows what the gear ratios are, which is why I say throw one in there and see what happens! Haha.

If you have to tear it down:

http://www.lilevo.com/mirage/Manuals/FW ... %2022A.pdf

I was hoping that it would have more than final gear ratio mentioned as well, but that will give you an idea of final drive RPM anyways.

92 Vista/Summit Wagon not sure if the Expo had the same one I would think so.
F5M31
Gear ratio:
1st 3.166
2nd 1.833
3rd 1.240
4th 0.896
5th 0.731
Reverse 3.166
Final reduction ratio 4.322
Speedometer gear ratio (driven/drive) 28/36
Oil quantity (qts) 2.4

Here is the link to KM210 ratios:

This is interesting too. Read almost at the bottom under "Rated torque capacities"...

Thanks man, those are some interesting figures on the Team Rip page. According to that the KM210 is quite a bit weaker than the turbo dsm tranny.

My 92 Galant GSR had this transmission in it. Its my understanding (through searching) that it was found overseas in the N/A (high HP) 1G DSM's as well as some of the upper crust Galants.

In USDM-land, they can be found in 1G & 2G mounting styles in the following models:

92 Galant (DOHC)
94-98? Galant (4G64)
2G "DSM" w/ 4G64
Colt/Summit/Expo w/4G64

When I bought my GSR, the trans was junk in it. I replaced it w/ one from a summit & can confirm they have the bigger bellhousing on them.

Hope this helps.

Well I ended up finding a low mileage 1g dsm turbo tranny but I might still grab this tranny from the yard in the near future if they don't crush the wagon. Thanks for all the help guys and I will be sure to update this if I get it.
