Earlier today i bought a 4g64 transmission for dirt cheap and naturally i am thinking RWD 4g63 so my question is...

Name some Cheap RWD imports? i really like the 77 celicas but you can't find any lol

The only stipulations are CHEAP!, RWD, Light weight and that's it. Import Domestic it's all good.

70's colts are hard to find i like the way they look though and a starlet would rock but they are also a hard find.

I have thought maybe rx7 (turbo II body) or a 80 corolla ...

Nick, the rwd trans that is mated to the 4g64 longitudinal mounted engine is a wideblock, and wont bolt up to a narrowblock 4g63. All long. mount 4g64 are wideblocks, and some expos. Andrew's trans is an early d50 that was mated to the carb'd narrow block 4g63. Not the same. You need a wideblock 4g64 to make that trans work. Time to go dumpster diving again. I think JD and I are shooting for next weekend to go to the pull-a-part in charlotte, they have lots o' mitsu's there.

I wouldnt do an FC, the car is just heavy enough to not be that fun. Unless you are swiss-cheesin it for drag purposes, then it will be fine. Also, I know where a very clean Starlet is, red.

70-75 Datsun 240/260Z. They weigh around 2,400lbs. stock, they have TONS of aftermarket support, and they look pretty damn sexy too.

as far as the tranny robert i was hopeful you would not burst my bubble like you just have :-?

after a little research at zeroG i feel even more stupid. And just for the record i was Thirsty :P

anyway shoot some more ideas out there people my hopes are not entirely dashed yet

I would strongly consider it. I don't think I've ever seen a Mitsu swap in one of those cars, would pretty a pretty neat change from the LS1/Chevy V8 or turbo I-6 swaps that you always see in those cars.

Why would you want to build a RWD project using a Mitsubishi transmission in the first place? It's not like the RWD trannies are any stronger than a DSM trans. Make a bellhousing adapter and put a real tranny like a T-56 on there so you can actually have some fun with the car.

There is almost no limit to what you can swap into given enough fab skills. Eric Plebani put one in a Porche. Staying with a RWD chassis is the easiest way, but there are still a lot of challenges. Mainly, the limited number of completed and experienced RWD swaps that have been done and the availability of "bolt-on" parts for the swap.

The 4G63 is still pretty cheap as far as swaps go. I chose a 4G63 over doing an SR20 swap into my Datsun for many reasons, but mostly it's just a lot cheaper.

My advice for picking a project car would be to simply find a car you like and go for it. The transmission you have will not hold up to much abuse, but it will get you on your way to doing a swap if that is what you want.

The transmission was readily available to me and we just used one from a D50 with the narrow style housing and it worked out great into a 84 volvo 240. The wiring still has to be done and there are alot of things to iron out but the mounts and actual swap is done.

I got to looking at the list and then checking on prices of parts just vaguely today and i am starting to lean towards a 90-91 mustang trunk car. The 4 cyl. 5 speed cars are relatively lightweight can be made to look "ok" and parts are everywhere and CHEAP

I like the idea of a adapter plate or housing but it's the money that gets me the money! my money is going into my 91 mirage this is just a secondary thought and side process. What i do eventually get will be gutted to the point where metal is taken out in chunks, strictly a drag car.
