what cam gears can i use on my 4g61? I have looked on ebay at many different gears! The least expensive units seem to fit newer 4g63 engines from 1997 and up. What can i use? thanks a million in advance ChrisQ |

not sure which ones to get but since we dont use a distributer there is really no need for adj gears unless ur making mad power and need them to help tune it. ive heard the aem ones are good tho..and the fidanza ones arent... but ive never used either. Steve |

I don't know what could possibly be good or bad about a cam gear. It's a pretty simple thing. I run the Fidanza cam gears on my Eclipse and I never had an issue, but I also just leave them straight up and down because I never had the time to dyno test the differences in adjusting them one way or the other. If you ask me, adjustable cam gears are a complete waste of money. If you buy a quality set of aftermarket cams you really don't have any need for adjustment. I'd leave it stock.

I also run the fidanza gears, zero'd out since I haven't hit the dyno. I went with adjustables since I chose to cheap out on the CAMs (comp) and I questioned the degreeing from the factory. As far as what can be bad about adjustables, my biggest concern would be if the locking mechanism (bolts) failed, timing would slip. I was NOT impressed with the locking of the fidanzas, though I have not had any problems. I should have gone with a better brand, or none at all. Mine may be knock-offs since they were bought off of ebay. |

I'm willing to bet that mine are knock-offs as well. If you loctite the bolts after you loosen them then you shouldn't have any problems.
