Post subject:  Radiator replacement for 89 Mirage Turbo

I'm wanting to replace the radiator in my Mirage as I simply cannot get it to stop leaking at the upper hose inlet. Hell I've replaced evrything else :vom:

I'm looking at a Mishimoto Aluminum radiator for a 90-94 Eclipse. Will this fit in my 89 Mirage? Of course there are no listings for an 89 Mirage.

An Eclipse radiator will not be a direct bolt-on. Eclipses have their radiator cap on the thermostat housing, not the radiator, plus the dimensions are a bit different. You can use a radiator out of any 89-93 Mitsubishi Galant, and I think 94-98 Galants as well.

Anything for a dsm you will need to change your thermo housing top. Look for one for a galant vr4, only thing different is the way the little nub goes for the overflow.

I've got a stock (plastic/aluminum) 90-93 Accord radiator in mine, the size was perfect, but I had to weld the lower mounts into a different spot. For the upper mounts, it was just a matter of ovaling the holes on the two little brackets where it bolts to the upper core support. They needed to be a quarter inch further back because the radiator is a little thicker; other than that, the upper mounting points lined up perfectly.

Thanks for the quick replys. I really don't have a way to perform welding and custom fits. I just had some custom upper brackets made for my stock radiator as the stock ones were worn.

It doesn't look like I'll be able to find a good radiator for my Mirage Turbo. The last 2 turned out to be garbage.

This car is amazingly difficult to find parts for...

Is there a reason to buy a Galant VR4 radiator over a stock Mirage Turbo unit?

The Galant radiator is probably easier to find, but they're basically the same thing. Also, the radiator doesn't have to be from a Galant VR4, it can be from any model Galant, all the same shit.

I vote for the ebay honda radiator. Less than $100 shipped, half the size, works perfect (as long as you get the thick one and have a 1000cfm+ fan on it). Only downside is that it doesn't look stock unless you paint the top tank black. Would have to redrill+tap two holes for the upper mount, mine fits on the bottom mount.

For what model would I look for? Lot's of Honda's in the world :-?

I just bought a fan but I remember it being 600cfm :( Could be wrong about that.

Nothing else is looking stock under that engine bay. No compromises on reliability. That's my #1 goal

GPI will build me a radiator for about $120. It's a Galant type for which I would have to cap a few ports but fit should be correct. A strong downside is that it takes about 2 weeks to build.

That's the one I bought.

Here's a fan that will work with it.

That looks OK but then there's modification I don't want to perform. I'm trying like hell not to add holes or alter this vehicle IF I DON'T HAVE TOO. That being said I've altered the shit out of this car like battery in the trunk, on and on.. I don't know, smaller radiator.. it'd play on my mind - or what's left of it

What about this?

Dude, don't fruit and banana around with a Honda radiator. If you ask me, that's something that you do out of desperation because you don't have any room for your turbo and/or intercooler setup. Your car is mostly stock and all original. Just find yourself a Galant radiator and be done with it, I bet your local auto parts store has one in stock, or could have one ordered up for you very easily.

Hong Kong location. I'm hopeful to find one closer to California. Imagine that I finally have my Mirage running well after 3.5 years and now I can't drive it because the radiator leaks like a sieve :(

No one commented on my EBAY find. What, you don't like it? It's a Galant Aluminum radiator.
