| Post subject: | Exhaust system time |
I've been so used to doing all the work on my own vehicles. 90% of the time that means a trip to a local autoparts house, dealer, or online store. But right now I am stuck. Should be of no surprise that my 20 year old car is in need of exhaust work, on the front side of the Cat. The pipe is failing at the location of the flexible section just aft of the motor, and I can't find a source for a front pipe for my '89 Colt 4G61T. Is paying a muffler shop to custom make one the only option? Or.... is there a source for bolt-on replacements that I just don't know of? Thanks for any/all advice or input. Alan |

You can use a downpipe from an 90-99 AWD Eclipse/Talon. Are you trying to upgrade your exhaust, or replace it with stock components? Everything from the downpipe-back will pretty much have to be custom, no one makes a bolt-on system for our cars. |

Not in line for any big system, the car is stock. Last October or thereabouts I found a listing from a Mitsubishi dealer online, with diagrams, part numbers, and discounted prices for the whole original style pipe, including the attached heat shields. Dang, wish I had bought two. The website is now defunct, and I can't even find a listing for the parts. So, the downpipe from the 2.0Turbo will fit, eh? All custom behind that sounds pricey, but I'll see what I can find from a local pipe bender. Anyone have any positive experiences or references in the Detroit, MI area? I live North of the city. The car is really too loud to drive now, and I already did one patch-and-go. Alan |

I don't know about fitting a stock downpipe, so don't quote me on that one. Most people on here upgrade to 3" exhaust, which I would also recommend for you--even if the car is stock you'll still notice a big difference in power without sacrificing reliability or anything else.
