Post subject:  Pocket Logger Setup

I'm interested in using a pocket logger to help tune with my MAFT setup. I would like to know more about it. How do you install it and what good things can I expect to do with it? This is for an 89 Mirage Turbo, 1.6L, with a 1G Eprom ECU. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The logger cable plugs into the diagnostic port by the fuse box by your feet. You can expect nothing from it unless you know what everything means. It's just a tuning tool, it's up to you to use it properly. It's extremely handy to have, and usually you can find entire setups really cheap on eBay including the Palm Pilot, so I'd recommend picking one up.

Yes, I have heard they are very handy. I'm interested in using one to help tune my MAFT setup. Apparently you can use the pocket logger to read the hertz of the MAF... to help with the base setting on the MAFT. Do I really need the pocket logger to help with the base setting of the MAFT? Other than maybe wanting the pocket logger to help with the tuning, I have an AEM wideband. What do you guys think? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

An S'AFC will display Karman Hz too. If you have an EPROM ECU you should leave the MAFT alone. Set it all for stock and then have everything tuned in the EPROM and the car will run a lot better like that.

Alright... yes, I have an Eprom ECU. So just set all the knobs to stock settings, like what injectors I have, idle, and such... and the ECU will do the rest? Sounds really easy... :D

Well you have to send the ECU out to be socketed and programmed. You program it for your injector size and other various things and then just set the MAFT up for a 1g DSM and blow-thru and leave it be. Tuning the MAFT itself is basically pointless.

Not to add more confusion in the mix, but keep in mind, the custom mail-order eproms will not alway be perfect, but close. It is still a good idea to fine tune with a safc.
