 Post subject: Leaking brake caliper

I replaced the front pads today on my 91 eagle summit and used a big c-clamp to push the piston back in like ive done on numerous cars in the past. When I did the passenger side, some break fluid squirted out past the rubber seal right before it was all the way back in. Can I expect it to leak now? I had my wife get in and pump the brake 20 or so times and hold it for a 5 count and didnt see any more. I guess i'll just watch the brake fluid level and go from there. Let me know what you think....

Sounds like it has a slow leak and you may have just squished out what was stting in the dust boot. I would keep an eye on it.

Could be a rust ridge on the part of the piston that will only reveal itself again once the pads start to wear again? The pistons on these calipers aren't composite like on my Chrysler Dynasty are they? I have a picture stuck in my head and I think it's of a composite fat piston body caliper setup from my Dynasty.

I dont think so as the drivers side piston has a chip taken out of the side for some reason. Looks like cast metal to me.

I still have both stock front calipers from my old 89 Colt in perfect shape. You can have them if you need them.

Please give me a day or two to watch it first. Hold them for me for that long if ya will. But like eagle said, the fluid looked dirty and black , but it was definitely brake fluid and it might of been sittin in there for a while. I did a complete fluid change last june and the the fluid in the cup is still golden. I'll watch it for a few days first. And I really do appreciate the offer.
