On my 1g eclipse I just left the metal bumper support out but on the Colt the metal support is what holds the plastic bumper cover on. So it looks like leaving it off isn't an option. Any tips from those of you with FMIC's?

Ditch the AC
Ditch the stock Rad and get one better, Aluminum and smaller to run tubes around
I still use both AC and the stock radiator. THE reason why things are so tight. I run the USDM Galant VR4 intercooler setup top to bottom, not terribly efficient but it fits a charm and although you have to cut the bumper support, good luck fitting in something more without getting a special shorty style intercooler core.

i'm using the mpr intercooler and i had to cut it down to make it fit. also i took the bumper to a weld shop and they trimmed it so i can still use my front bumper cover. i'll post you a pic when i get a chance.

Cut the center of the metal bumper out so you can keep at least a couple of the mounting points with the remaining 'frame horns' bolted in place. There really is no happy medium, especially with a large IC. I think my bumper is resting on these frame horns and has the 2 bolts per side that go to the fender well bracket, and into the fender.

In terms of mounting, I had to cut the vertical support for the hood latch, and connect it to the top of the IC (I welded a tab on for this) and the bottom side of my IC has a couple mounting points as well.

Any pics of what IC youre trying to install??? Best bet is to just take it apart, cut everything thats in your way, and make it fit since its not application specific.

Use a piece of angle iron screwed down to your radiator support to hold the bottom of the FMIC itself and make some tabs/straps for the top.

i always wondered how to fit it in there, when looking under the hood i always wondered....

what would be recommended for a upgrade for the radiator
dare i say a (CIVIC) 1/2 size made by koyo or other aftermarket radiator?

"Adamrx7" out of St Louis welded two pieces [4'' long] of 1/2" x1/2" box aluminum to the bottom of my FMIC [buschur style]. I then aligned it on the car, and drilled holes thru the box aluminum and the BOTTOM of the core support. He then then welded a piece of 90 degree 1/4 ' strap aluminum to the TOP of the FMIC and we connected THAT to the hood latch support.

The original latch support is still there too

Thanks for the pictures Geoff but what are you going to attach your plastic bumper cover to? It's mostly held on by bolts and clips to the metal bumper support and it doesn't look like you plan on putting that back on.

The bumper cover will get remounted to a metal bumper support bracket. Sorry about not being "centered when I took the pic, but the FMIC leaves room for the two brackets that connect to the frame. I'll have to do some cutting to the main bumper support though

hey Mr Hyde are those 11" wire ties holding up your radiator? Also, where is your radiator cap? Would the radiator with the cap on the upper driver corner fit the cap on there too? This one..

there are kits that summit sells that allows you to mount it IN the upper radiator hose. or in his case, the radiator is now lower than the thermostat housing, so a dsm t-stat housing will work just fine.

I have that radiator in my Mirage mounted in the rails too. My radiator cap is right at the head.

MR HYDE, Do you have a writeup on how to install that radiator? Id also suggest using fans that mount on the front of the radiator to add even more room in the engine bay, if you havent thought of this already.
