Yup, but I've heard that the power rack, looped even, is better.

Definetly a quicker ratio. 3.25:1 vs 4.25:1 lock to lock

My power steering is fully intact and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

My Colt had a manual rack and I hated it when doing tight/slow turns. Does the PS really rob that much power to go through all that trouble?

I sure haven't noticed any power robbing. I love turning into parking spaces with one finger!

I can't even stand my Summit's 3.25 ltl rack, never mind the 4.25! :o

I love DSM's 2.75 rack. Or better yet, EVO's 2.1 rack!

Turbo C53a's had the best steering ratio of the bolt on Colt options, so if you were to loop that versus the regular C52a rack, it would be better. But just as Jason stated and what I can also vouch for, the turbo power steering rack when running as designed, is hella better and so much easier to manoveur the car with.

What exactly to you mean "looped"?

Post subject:

Looped is a method of bypassing the pump and simply running the output line to the input line on the steering rack and thus totally bypassing the power steering pump and the effect it has on making the rack easier to turn, whether on partial or full assist.

I think you loop them to prevent the fluid from escaping, but it doesn't really make it any easier. Here are insctructions on how Miata guys do it:

Interesting. Any way of doing damage to the system by keeping it like this?

No. As long as there is a minimal amount of fluid in the rack for lube, it will be fine. As far as long term wear, not sure.
